SEMO Hits Walk-Off Home Run to Oust Bears

Season Statistics

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri State's Jevon Mason completed a 4-for-4 day with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday to give the Redhawks an 8-7 victory over Missouri State at Capaha Field.

SEMO (31-16) scored the first three runs of the game and the final five to improve to a national-best 21-1 at home, while the Bears (22-23) posted seven runs in the second through fourth frames before being shut down for the final five innings.

After the Redhawks hit a pair of home runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead, Jake McMahill tossed three hitless innings in relief to allow the Bears to storm back and take a 7-3 advantage in the fourth.

MSU evened the score in the second after Mason Greer doubled and scored on a wild pitch, and Anthony Socci hit a two-run double to drive in Dakota Kotowski and Will Duff after both were hit by pitches.

Drake Baldwin led off the fourth with his 10th home run of the season and Grant Wood added a two-out RBI double to make it 5-3, and Mason Hull added a two-run single in the fourth for the 7-3 margin.

SEMO loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly and two-run double and evened the score in the sixth after a leadoff walk came around to score. Following quiet seventh and eighth frames, Mason led off the ninth with the game-winner.

Socci logged his first career two-hit game for the Bears and also threw out a pair of would-be base stealers from behind the plate. Spencer Nivens and Baldwin also logged two-hit days.

The Bears return home for a three-game series with Illinois State May 13-15. First pitch each day at 11 a.m.
