TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts got a walk-off single from Mac McCroskey in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday afternoon to hand the Golden Eagles a 6-5 victory over Missouri State at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Bears (2-2) had plenty of chances during a game in which the wind chill sat in the teens, stranding 17 runners on base, including 10 in scoring position.
Dakota Kotowski got the scoring started with a two-run home run in the second, ORU (2-2) scratched across an unearned in the bottom half before
Will Duff's sacrifice fly in the fourth made it 3-1.
The Golden Eagles pulled even in the fifth after loading the bases with no outs, and
Spencer Nivens walked with the bases loaded in the sixth to put Missouri State back on top 4-3.
Oral Roberts used an error and three singles to take a 5-4 lead in the seventh before
Drake Baldwin knotted the score again with a leadoff homer in the eighth.
Missouri State stranded two runners after Baldwin homered, then loaded the bases in the ninth, but the Golden Eagles escaped each time thanks to inning-ending strikeouts, part of 13 on the day for ORU pitching.
The home team then strung together three consecutive out-one singles in the ninth for the win.
Grant Wood went 3-for-3 for the Bears and reached safely five times, while Duff got on base four times.
Reece Lang yielded two earned runs in 4.1 innings of his first career start, and the MSU pitching staff did not walk a batter in the game.
The Bears take on Cal Poly in a three-game series this weekend that has moved from Hammons Field to Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. The teams will play a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday and an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
