Storylines for the SIU Match
1) Missouri State closes out the regular season against Southern Illinois (17-12, 10-7 MVC) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Hammons Student Center. The Bears are clinging to the eighth and final MVC Tournament spot, and will advance with a win or a Bradley loss to Illinois State.
2) The Bears have played beyond three sets in 19 of 29 matches this season with 10 matches going the distance. MSU is averaging 4.0 sets per match this year and has only eclipsed 4.0 on one other other occasion, the 2020-21 season at 4.18. In MVC matches, MSU averages 4.06 sets with seven five-setters in 17 outings.
3) Senior Manuela Ibarguen has six matches with 20-plus kills this season, including four in MVC play. Those four came in succession from Oct. 1-14, making her the first MSU player since Joleen Meservy in 1997 with four straight 20-kill matches.
4) The Bears rank 52nd nationally with 15.83 digs per set and 14th in total digs. Those numbers come from a balanced defensive effort with five players averaging at least 2.01 digs per set.
5) Missouri State has hit .247 or better six times in the last 10 matches after only doing so once in the season's first 19 contests.
6) Despite a 6-11 league record, the Bears have a 33-36 record in MVC sets and have an aggregate point score of plus-33 over the opposition, including more total points in three of the team's losses, and have owned at least one match point in nine MVC matches. Six of MSU's 11 MVC losses came in five sets.The Bears are 7-16 in 23 sets decided by two points, including four such fifth sets.
7) Senior Azyah Green has led MSU in blocking each of her first three seasons and is on pace to do so again this year. All-American Linette White is the last Bear to lead the club three years in a row, doing so in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The last player to lead the team in four consecutive years was Mindy Struckhoff from 1985-88. Green ranks eighth in school history with 459 career blocks and 11th with a 1.06 per set average. Both totals are the highest for any player who played exclusively in the 25-point scoring era (since 2008).
8) MSU has notched the top two ace averages since the 25-point scoring era began in the last two seasons, posting 1.61 per set in 2020-21 and 1.38 last season, and this year's average sits between at 1.59. The 2022 MSU roster has served a combined 313 aces in the Maroon and White, and the Bears rank 23rd nationally this season with 185 total aces.
9) The Missouri State-Southern Illinois coaching matchup features a combined 1,314 victories on the sideline, with MSU's Steven McRoberts ranking 17th among active Division I coaches with 628 victories, and SIU's Ed Allen ranking 12th with 686 wins. McRoberts, who succeeded Allen as head coach at Tulsa in 2011, owns an 12-2 record in head-to-head meetings - 1-0 against Tulsa as Central Arkansas' head coach, 7-1 versus Alabama while coaching Ole Miss, and 4-1 in Missouri State/SIU match-ups.

The Salukis swept the Bears on Oct. 17 in Carbondale, one of only two 3-0 losses for MSU in league play.
   Deja Bickers hit .556 with 11 kills and Lucca Dunser added 10 on .320 hitting, and the Bears posted a .295 efficiency as a team.
