SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State's .463 hitting percentage Saturday afternoon marked the third-best figure in program history and gave the Bears a 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of Middle Tennessee for head coach Steven McRoberts' 100th victory at Mo State.
The win moved the Bears to 18-6 overall and 9-3 in Conference USA with a two-game lead on third-place MTSU (16-8, 7-5) with four matches remaining in the regular season. For McRoberts, he becomes the fourth active coach with 100 or more wins at three Division I schools, and the only active coach to do so at four different four-year institutions with his time at Lubbock Christian included.
The Bears rode an incredible .773 efficiency in the final period to their highest percentage since 1995, piling up 17 kills on 22 swings without an error to end up with 43 kills against only five errors in the match. Only a .556 percentage against Eastern Illinois in 1990 and .470 mark versus Evansville in 1995 rank higher in program history.
Rilynn Finley led all players with 13 kills on .524 hitting, including six early points in the first set that helped the Bears gain a 13-4 lead after a 10-0 run.
Missouri State led wire to wire in the second period, closing on a 7-0 run that featured Chloe Judd and Lexi Weinberg teaming up for three blocks before a Judd solo stuff ended it.
In the third, six different Bears had a kill, with Finley's 5-for-6 effort leading the way to the sweep.
Six different Bears had at least five kills in the match, each hitting at least .273. Brooke Eslinger led the defense with 14 digs, and Judd was in on six of the Bears' nine blocks to help hold the Blue Raiders to a .134 efficiency.
The Bears head to the Land of Enchantment next weekend for matches with New Mexico State on Nov. 6 and 7.
