Women’s Soccer Begins Last Home Stretch Versus Indiana State

SPRINGFIELD – Starting the team's final home stand of the regular season, Missouri State women's soccer faces Belmont here Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Parking and Admission

•   Admission is free at Missouri State women's soccer home matches.
•   Due to a large conference being held at Great Southern Bank Arena, fans are encouraged to arrive early for home athletic events scheduled on Oct. 13 and 14. Fans are also encouraged to utilize Lot 20, south of Allison South Stadium, or one of the two campus parking garages due to a high demand for parking on those dates.

Match Details 

The Missouri State women's soccer team (8-5-2, 5-1-1 MVC) starts its regular-season home stretch Thursday at 7 p.m. versus Indiana State at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. Admission is free, and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN+. 
 

Quick Kicks 

•   Missouri State is 6-1-1 since a 1-0 loss at Arkansas State on Sept. 8.  

• Grace O'Keefe (So., Overland Park, Kan.) leads all Bears in goals (four) and points (11), and she is tied for the most on MSU in shots (28, tied with Joey Fosnow) and assists (three, tied with Carly Raunig). O'Keefe is tied for 1st in the MVC in both goals and points. 

•   Joey Fosnow (Fr., F, Lee's Summit, Mo.) leads the Bears in shots on goal with 18. Fosnow is also tied with O'Keefe for 4th most shots in The Valley (28, 1.87 Avg/G). 

•   Gracie English (Jr., F/M, Belleville, Ill, Saint Louis transfer) and Hailey Chambliss (Fr., F/M, Eureka, Mo.) are two of six MVC players to score two or more goals in a single game. English scored twice at ORU (9/04/22), and Chambliss scored twice at Southern Illinois (9/29/22). They are alongside Drake's Emma Nagel (two at Kansas City, 8/18/22), Northern Iowa's Allison Whitaker (two vs. St. Ambrose, 8/28/22) Illinois State's Allison Baker (two vs. Lindenwood, 9/8/22) and Murray State's Sydney Etter (three vs. Illinois State, 10/9/22).  

•   Through 15 games, Kyli Jackson (Sr., D, Overland Park, Kan.) has logged the most minutes of any Bear at 1284. Jenna Anderson (So., D/M, Overland Park, Kan.) is the only other Bear with over 1200 minutes, with 1266 respectively. 

•   Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Abby Couch (Jr., M, Kearney, Mo.) and Carly Raunig (Jr., D, Olathe, Kan.) have started every match (32 total).  

•   Camielle Day (Jr., GK, Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) has a goals against average of 0.99, good for 4th in the MVC. Day has also posted six shutouts, tied for 2nd most in the MVC and has a save percentage of .782.  

•   MoState has a shutout percentage of .533, tied for 41st in the nation (eight total shutouts). 

•   Missouri State ranks 33rd in shot accuracy nationally (.530).  

•   MSU has outshot every opponent since 9/8/22 (at Arkansas State). Since Sept. 1 vs. Saint Louis, the Bears are outscoring their opponents 13-5 and outshooting them 117-89. 

•   MoState already has already more than doubled its conference wins (five) from last year's total (two).  

•   The Bears have five conference shutouts out of their seven MVC matches, and they have been exceptionally reliable on the road, posting a better road record (4-2-1) than home record (4-3-1) thus far.   

Scoring Summary 

•   Eight Bears have found the back of the net so far.  

•   Grace O'Keefe (So., F, Overland Park, Kan.) has four goals. O'Keefe scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute against Tulsa (8/28/22), netted the game-winning goal in the 78th minute of the conference opener vs. Evansville (9/18/22), put the Bears on the board with a goal in the 83rd minute off a free kick versus Murray State (10/06/22) and scored the game-winning goal for MSU in the 57th minute at Belmont (10/09/22).  

•   Hailey Chambliss (Fr., M, Eureka, Mo.) has three goals. Chambliss scored twice in one match, netting goals in the 71st and 84th minutes at Southern Illinois (9/29/22). She then scored the following game, netting a game-winning, 52nd minute goal for the Bears at home against Valparaiso.  

•   Joey Fosnow (Fr., F, Lee's Summit, Mo.) has three goals. Fosnow scored the first goal of the year for MoState in the 54th minute vs. SEMO (8/25/22), netted her second in 24th minute at Drake (9/22/22) and scored in the fourth minute at Northern Iowa (9/25/22).  

•    Gracie English (Jr., F/M, Belleville, Ill, Saint Louis) has two goals, with both of her scores coming in the first half on Sept. 4 at Oral Roberts.  

•   Kaeli Benedict (So., M, Bridgton, Mo.) has two goals, scoring against SEMO (8/25/22) in the 67th minute and netting a game-winning penalty kick goal in the 16th minute against Kansas City (9/11/22).  

•   Riley Smith (Fr., F, Platte City, Mo.) has one goal, finding the back of the net in the 85th minute vs. Tulsa (8/28/22). 

•   Iraia Arrue (So., F, Caracas, Venezuela) has one goal, scoring in the 34th minute at Northern Iowa (9/25/22). 

•   Riley Sherron (Jr., D/M, Leawood, Kan.) has one goal, scoring in the 83rd minute at Belmont (10/09/22). 

 

Head Coach Kirk Nelson 

•   Head coach Kirk Nelson took the reins of the Bears on Jan. 1, 2022, after eight seasons as associate head coach. Nelson replaced former Bears' head coach and founder of the MSU women's program Rob Brewer, who retired last season after 26 years. Prior to joining the Missouri State staff, Nelson spent four seasons at the University of Nevada, including one as associate head coach. During his last two seasons in Nevada, Nelson led the Wolfpack to back-to-back Mountain West Conference Tournaments. Nelson also had success as a high school head coach near Phoenix, AZ, spending time at both Mountain Pointe High School and Chandler High School. Nelson racked up 175 wins and competed for a pair of 5A state championships during this time. Nelson is certified as a USSF National "A" License coach, one of the highest coaching certifications given out by the federation and holds both an NSCAA Premier Diploma and a Goalkeeping Diploma. 

 

Series History 

•  MSU leads the all-time series versus Indiana State 13-7-2. The Bears hold a 5-4-1 record against the Sycamores at home, with a 8-3-1 record on the road.  

•   The teams last met on 10/17/21 in Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State took the match, 3-1. 

Looking Ahead 

•   After the game versus Indiana State, MoState finishes their two-game home stand with a matchup with UIC Sunday at 1 p.m.
