Keeping Track of the Bears
- Missouri State is set to begin the outdoor portion of its 2021 schedule, marking its first outdoor competition since 2019 after last year's cancelation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The regular season features a five-meet slate, all leading up to the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship which will be held on May 14-16 in Carbondale, Ill.
- Missouri State will send 29 competitors to the season-opening meet, including 21 Bears who will be making their outdoor debut.
- The Bears return four outdoor all-MVC winners to their roster with two-time honoree Jamilah James boasting an event title (2019) and a runner-up finish (2018) in the triple jump. Rochelle Etienne joined James on the podium in 2018, taking second in the javelin. In 2019, Grace Breiten placed second in the 5,000-meter run and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Chicago Bains finished third in the 100-meter hurdles.
- Joining MSU's all-conference contingency, Madison Meredith is set to begin her first outdoor campaign as a Bear after a star-studded showing throughout the indoor season which culminated with her earning MVC Most Valuable Athlete and Most Outstanding Track Athlete distinctions after finishing with a meet-high 20.75 points at the MVC Indoor Championship. Meredith broke the program's 60-meter dash indoor record with a time of 7.32 before going on to collect her second goal medal of the meet in the 200-meter dash. She became the first Bear to garner indoor MVP honors since Casey Owens in 2005.
- MSU is coming off an excellent performance at the Valley championship where the Bears earned five all-conference finishes – including four gold medalists – to finish fifth in the team standings. Along with Meredith's two event titles in the sprints, James and Brooke Jenkins added two more golds in the horizontal jumps with James placing first in the triple jump and Jenkins winning the long jump title.  Calandra Henry made for a Bears top-3 in the 60m with her bronze-medal finish.
- Jordan Fife is in his third year as head coach and seventh overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant. Fife has also handled head coaching duties of the cross country team since 2014.
