Soccer Bears set for Match in Normal

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team (1-3-2) will continue MVC play as they visit Illinois State for Friday tilt at 4 p.m.

Quick Kicks
  • MSU is 1-3-2 on the 2020-21 season.
  • In the recent MVC Preseason Poll, the Bears garnered the No. 3 spot with 63 points while receiving one first-place vote.
  • The Bears tied MVC preseason favorite Loyola in its last match 0-0.
  • MSU currently ranks 77th out of 211 teams nationally in corner kicks with five.
  • MSU had two spring matches previously scheduled against Missouri Southern (Feb. 11) and Creighton (Feb. 18) however, both were canceled due to adverse weather conditions.

  • Goalkeeper Katherine Montgomery played an integral role in Saturday's 0-0 double-overtime tie with Loyola as she recorded eight saves in eight opportunities. The performance was her first career shutout.
  • As a result of her efforts Montgomery was named MVC player of the week on March 2.
  • Dragana Andonovski, Ingrid Perkins, Kennady Orlick, and Isabel Burke, all lead the team in goals at one apiece.
  • The Bears were the only team in the Missouri Valley Conference to play matches this fall.
  • Due to injuries, the Bears have started three different goalies this season while all four goalies have seen action.
  • Of MSU's 28 players, 16 are freshmen or sophomores, making them one of the youngest teams in The Valley.
  • Key starters returning for the Bears include Bryn McQuaid, and Anna Durnin.
  • Three Bears garnered All-MVC Preseason honors as Kaitlyn Maxwell, Durnin and Isabel Burke landed on the first team.
  • Durnin earned All-MVC first-team honors and tied for third on the team in goals (3) in 2019.
  • Missouri State is in its 25th season of women's soccer with a 217-196-56 (.522) all-time record. Rob Brewer is the only head coach in the program's history and has guided the Bears to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2000, 2017).

  • Illinois State is 1-2 on the season.
  • The Redbirds defeated Evansville 1-0 in their MVC opener the last time out.
  • Illinois State came in at second in the MVC Preseason Poll.
  • ISU had three preseason All-MVC nominees in Natalie Vaughn-Low, Alissa Ramsden and Abby Bassler.
  • The Redbirds went 14-6 last season in-route to an MVC Tournament Final appearance.
  • Illinois State is led by Brad Silvey, who is in his 4th season at the helm and has an overall record of 34-26-5.

  • The Bears' last win over the Redbirds was a 2-0 triumph on Oct. 26, 2017.
  • The last time the teams met was Nov. 12, 2019, with Loyola prevailing, 2-0.
