Storylines for the MVC Tournament
1) Missouri State (15-6, 11-5 Missouri Valley Conference) tied for second in the MVC standings and is the No. 3 seed in the week's conference tournament in Normal, Ill. The Bears begin tourney play at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 1 against sixth-seeded Loyola. The winner takes on either No. 2 Drake or seventh seeded UNI at 5 p.m. Friday, and the championship match is set for 5 p.m. Saturday.
2) Missouri State is 35-30 all-time in Gateway/Missouri Valley Conference Tournament play with titles coming in 1990, 1993, 2005, 2008 and 2017. The Bears have played in the championship match in nine of their last 18 appearances.
3) The Bears average 1.64 aces per set, on pace for the best figure since 1992 and well ahead of the 2003 club's 1.47 average that ranks as the best in the rally scoring era. Missouri State has seven matches with 10-plus aces already this year, the most since the 1987 team also did that 10 times.
4) MSU has served 41 more aces than the opposition with 55 fewer service errors, resulting in a 96-point difference. The Bears have served more aces than the opposition in 13 of 21 matches, and more aces than errors 14 times.
5) Missouri State has locked up an overall winning record, both overall and in MVC play, for the 21st time in the last 22 seasons.
6) Junior Amelia Flynn became the 23rd player in school history with 1,000 career kills in MSU's March 28 match at Indiana State.
7) Underclassmen have accounted for 69 percent of MSU's point total this season, and all but one of the Bears' 1,360 points this year have been scored by non-seniors.
8) Missouri State head coach Steven McRoberts became the 19th active Division I head coach with 600 career wins with MSU's 3-1 triumph against Bradley on March 22.
