Volleyball Sweeps Idaho State in 2026 Opener

WICHITA, Kan. – Missouri State began its 2026 volleyball season Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Idaho State at the Shocker Volleyball Classic inside Koch Arena.
Rilynn Finley had 14 kills and Hannah Gardner hit .400 with 12 kills and 13 assists for the double-double, while Kya Johnson's 16 digs led a strong defensive effort that held the Bengals to a .040 attack efficiency in the 25-18, 25-20, 27-25 victory.
Finley piled up eight of her kills in the first set, with the Bears jumping out to a 6-1 lead and never looking back, hitting .333 as a team with 16 kills.
Idaho State's only lead of the first two sets came at 1-0 in the second, with the Bears quickly turning the score in their favor and taking a 15-10 lead on a Riley Ourth ace. The Bengals rallied for a 19-19 tie when Gardner, Finley and Weinberg rattled off kills to start a 5-0 run for Mo State.
The Bears trailed 10-5 third, gained a 16-15 lead on a Hannah Redrow block, then went up 23-21 thanks to another Redrow stuff before ISU earned set point at 24-23 with a 3-0 run. Mo State fought off a pair of set points before its own 3-0 closing run, with Weinberg's kill accounting for the final point and giving the junior seven error-free kills on .467 hitting in the contest.
Missouri State owned a .237-.040 advantage in hitting percentage and 42-41 lead in digs while both squads had seven blocks. Brooke Eslinger had 11 digs for the Bears to join Johnson in double figures, Redrow tallied a team-high four blocks, and Chloe Judd served half of the team's four aces.
The Bears meet Southland Conference favorite Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wichita.
