Quick Kicks
- No. 10 Missouri State (6-0-0, 5-0-0 MVC) picked up another three points on Monday, March 22, coming out on top of an action-packed 3-2 match against Drake inside Allison South. A four-goal first half was met with Nicolo Mulatero's game-winner right after halftime to see the Bears keep their flawless 2021 record intact. Mulatero finished with two goals in the offensive outburst while Aadne Bruseth earned an assist on all three MSU goals. Bruseth's three dimes were the most in a single game for the Bears since Jordan Hoffman's three against UMKC on Oct. 18, 2011.
- The Bears are just one of nine teams in all of Division I men's soccer to hold a perfect record on the season and boast the most wins (6) among the remaining clubs. It marks the second straight year Missouri State has rattled off six consecutive wins to begin the season after the 2019 squad became the first DI program to post a perfect regular season (16-0-0) since Akron in 2009.
- The MSU attack leads the nation in corner kicks per game (10.67) with a staggering 64 through six matches. The Bears have posted double-digit efforts in corner set-pieces in three games this season with 11 against Bradley in the season opener (Feb. 27), 16 against Creighton (March 10) and a season-high 18 in a rematch versus the Braves on March 18.
- For the second time this year, Missouri State swept the MVC weekly awards with Nicolo Mulatero and Greg Stratton earning Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. It was Mulatero's second offensive accolade after he was a part of the first Bears sweep with Connor Langan on March 2. Stratton earned his second career player of the week distinction after receiving the honor last season on Oct. 15, 2019. Overall, MSU has garnered six of the conference's weekly awards with previous winners Kyle Hiebert (March 16), Dawson Lee (March 9), and Langan (March 2) joining Mulatero (twice) and Stratton.
- Nicolo Mulatero (Jr., F, Givoletto, Italy) recorded his first career brace on Monday against Drake, marking the first multi-goal game for MSU since Matthew Bentley scored a pair at Valpo on Oct. 30, 2019. Mulatero has added five assists to his 2021 ledger, setting up goals in all but one of the Bears' matches this season. He is the conference leader in points (13), goals (4), assists (5) and game-winners (2).
- Michael Creek (Sr., GK, St. Louis, Mo.) has held opponents scoreless in four of his six matches while logging all 549:23 goalie minutes. The four clean sheets in 2021 gives him 17 for his career to rank fourth on the program's career shutout list. Creek earned MVC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019 after finishing the season with seven shutouts and a 0.645 goals against average that ranked ninth in the nation.
- Jesus Barea (Fr., F, Cadiz, Spain) has started off his debut season in impressive fashion with his three goals standing as second-best on the team behind Mulatero's four. He has also tallied assits in back-to-back matches for the Bears to rank him second in the Valley with eight points.
- Loyola (3-2-2, 2-1-1 MVC) suffered its first conference loss last week, dropping a 2-1 result at Drake on March 18. The Ramblers are second in the MVC standings, sitting behind first-place Missouri State with league wins against Evansville (March 9) and Bradley (March 14).
- The LUC defense has registered a league-leading five shutouts with Drake's two-goal outing last week snapping the Loyola's five-game scoreless streak. The Ramblers have used three goalkeepers, Simon Jillson, Marcel Kampman and Alex Grow to secure their five clean sheets. Fabian Becerra paces a balanced Loyola attack with two goals while Julian Cisneros has launched a team-high 15 shots.
- Head coach Neil Jones is 69-47-24 in his eighth season at the helm for the Ramblers. He has a 4-5-3 record against Missouri State after going 0-2-1 versus the Bears in 2019.
- Missouri State leads the all-time series 7-4-3 against Loyola, including a regular-season sweep of the Ramblers in 2019. The Bears are an even 2-2-2 when playing in Chicago.
- The last meeting between the two clubs was an intense slugfest in the MVC Tournament Championship on Nov. 17, 2019. A last-minute goal from Loyola forced overtime where both teams battled looking for the game-winner, but the scoreless overtime sent the match to PKs where the Ramblers came out on top, 5-4.
- Head coach, Jon Leamy is 6-4-3 against LUC, going unbeaten in his first five matches against the Ramblers.
