Keeping Track of the Bears
- Missouri State concludes its indoor season at the MVC Championship after a three-meet regular season. The Valley meet is hosted by Northern Iowa held inside the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A short evening session on Friday commences the competition with the weight throw, long jump and sprint preliminaries kicking off the meet at 5:00 p.m. The multi-events get underway at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday before field events pick up again at 5:00 p.m. along with the mile. The final session on Sunday starts with the high jump at 10:30 a.m., followed by the remaining running events going from 11:30 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.
- MSU (59) was picked fifth in the MVC Pre-Championship Poll that was revealed Wednesday (Feb. 24). Illinois State (100) was unanimously selected as the frontrunner, followed by Indiana State (87), UNI (76), and Southern Illinois (74). Loyola (46), Bradley (44), Drake (33), Evansville (19), and Valparaiso (15) rounded out the poll.
- The Bears enter the 2021 championship with a total of 12 marks in scoring position on the MVC performance list, including two relay teams that have top-8 times.  In the sprints, MSU has four times that rank in the top eight with Madison Meredith boasting MVC-best times in both the 60m (7.44) and 200m (24.22) while Calandra Henry (7.66) and Nakaja Weaver (7.69) rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 60m. Edna Dar, who had a runner-up finish in the mile at the 2020 conference meet, holds the eighth-fastest time in the 800m after recording a 2:14.64 at the UCM Classic last week (Feb. 19). Jessica Haney's historic leap from the Gorilla Classic (Feb. 12), where she set a new program record in the high jump by clearing the bar at the 1.78-meter mark, sits as second best this season. In the horizontal jumps, Brooke Jenkins' winning jump (5.67m) from the UCM Classic tied her for first in the long jump to go along with a second-place ranking in the triple jump (11.44m). Talia Emerson (5.63m) is third in the long jump while Olivia Richards (10.62m) ranks seventh in the triple jump The Bears' distance medley relay team holds the league's fastest time after recording a time of 12:19.70 at the Washburn Open while and their 4x400-meter relay time (3:56.88) from the Gorilla Classic sits as sixth-best.
- Jenkins was named MVC Field Athlete of the Week earlier this week (Feb. 24) for her performance at the UCM Classic. Her winning jump of 5.67 meters positioned her atop the Valley rankings, tying with UNI's Aleenah Marcucci for best in the conference. She became the second straight Bear to garner the weekly accolade after Meredith received the honor in the track category on Feb. 17.
- At last year's MVC meet, MSU finished third in the team standings highlighted by a dramatic final race and a total of seven all-conference winners.  Going into the final event, Missouri State stood outside the top-3 by just 4.33 points, but the Bears' 4x400-meter relay team used a season-best time of 3:45.86 to leapfrog the two teams in front of them and earn its highest finish since winning the championship in 2012. Returning all-conference medalists Dar, Timeka Jordan, and Jamilah James will head to the league meet looking to add to their collection. As a four-time honoree, James placed second in the triple jump last season following an event title in 2019 and another runner-up finish in 2018 to go along with a silver medal in the long jump in 2019. Last year, Dar finished second in the mile while Jordan placed third in the 60m.
- Missouri State has captured a total of six team titles at the conference indoor competition, winning at least one in each of the three previous decades (1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2012).
- Jordan Fife is in his third year as head coach and seventh overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant. Fife has also handled head coaching duties of the cross country team since 2014.
