Keeping Track of the Bears
- Missouri State returns to the Sunflower State after an impressive start to the 2021 campaign at the Washburn Open (Jan. 29-30). The Bears won three event titles and added six additional top-five finishes at the season-opening meet.Â
- Sophomore vertical jumper Jessica Haney won her second career individual title in the high jump after clearing the bar at the 1.62-meter (5-03.75) mark. She finished top five in the event in five of the six meets she competed in 2020, including a first-place showing at last year's Gorilla Classic.
- Madison Meredith made an impactful debut for MSU at the Washburn meet, finishing first in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Her times of 7.46 (60m) and 24.45 (200m) sit atop the Valley leaderboard and rank 43rd and 80th nationally, respectively.
- This weekend's competition at PSU serves as the final tune-up for MSU before heading to the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship on Feb. 26-28. Last year, the Bears finished third in the team standings to earn its highest mark at the Valley meet since winning the championship in 2012.
- Last time at the Gorilla Classic, Haney and Edna Dar each claimed an event title to highlight a strong Bears showing at the 2020 competition. Dar broke a four-year meet record in the 800-meter run with her career-best time of 2:10.03. She collected all-MVC recognition after finishing second in the mile at last year's conference meet.
- Fellow all-conference honorees Timeka Jordan and Jamilah James will make their season debut this weekend. James has four Valley medals to her name with two second-place finishes (2018, 2020) and a league title (2019) in the triple jump and a runner-up finish in the long jump (2019). Jordan earned silver in the 60-meter dash at the 2020 MVC championship after making the finals on a career-best time of 7.64 in the race's semifinal heat.Â
- Jordan Fife is in his third year as head coach of the Bears and seventh overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant. Fife has also handled head coaching duties of the cross country team since 2014.
