Barea Earns POW Honors Following Bears Win Over Loyola

November 08, 2021

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State's Jesus Barea was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.

He received the honor following MSU's road win over Loyola, which helped the Bears to a perfect regular season (10-0) conference mark.

Barea was the difference maker in Missouri State's 2-1 victory over the Ramblers on Saturday, Nov. 6. The forward netted the tiebreaking goal to give the Bears the 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. The goal was not only the sophomore's fourth of the season, but also his second against Loyola this year. Eight minutes later, Barea made his presence known again, providing a solo assist to Josh Dolling's game-winning goal. He not only started the match, but also played 71 aggressive minutes to help extend the Bears' national-best win streak to 13 games.

The Bears return home to host the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. MSU will play either the four-seed, Evansville, or the five-seed, Drake, on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m.
