SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend when they host Indiana State and Missouri S&T for a two-day dual on Friday and Saturday at Hammons Student Center.

Meet Details
- The two-day meet will be held at Hammons Student Center.
- The meet will consist of session one starting on Friday at 5 p.m., while session two will start on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.
- Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app which is downloadable through the app store.
- Diving events will be at the conclusion of both days.
- The men will face Missouri S&T while the women square off against Indiana State.

- Prior to Saturday's start, Missouri State will be honoring its senior class at 9:55 a.m. The 10-member senior class consists of: Adriana Avila, Arthur Cury, Kellie Fischer, Trevor Fischer, Michael Hampel, Libby Howell, Pawel Krawczyk, Anna Miller, John David Spence and Alex Thorson.
- In their last meet out, the Bears placed second in the Kansas Tri-Duals. MSU defeated South Dakota (222.50-129.50) and fell to Kansas (228.50-118.50).
- In relay action, Anna Miller, Libby Howell, Anna Lucas and Payton Smith won the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:37.82
- Sami Roemer posted two second-place finishes at the Kansas Duals. Roemer finished second in the 200 IM (2:08.30) and 100 butterfly (58.75). The Bettendorf, Iowa, native also placed fifth in the 400 IM (4:36.22) and 100 backstroke (58.75).
- Anna Miller won the 50 freestyle (23.48) and 100 freestyle (50.77). Her performance in the 100 freestyle was the ninth-fastest among all mid-major competitors. She also registered a 1:52.15 in the 200 freestyle which is an MVC best.
- Libby Howell won the 200 freestyle (1:52.33), while placing second in the 500 freestyle (5:03.90) and third in the 100 freestyle (52.52). Howell's 500 freestyle time was the second-fastest among MVC swimmers this season.
- Samantha Hietpas placed third in the 1000 freestyle, registering a 10:30.95, good for third-fastest in The Valley this season.
- Freshman Payton Smith has made an immediate impact so far this season. At Kansas she won the 200 butterfly (2:05.85). In the TYR Invitational she recorded two-top five finishes by finishing fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:05.26) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:08.99). In her debut against SIU, she won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.09.
- Missouri State placed fifth against a strong tournament field at the TYR Invitational on Oct. 9 with a score of 247 points. Relay action was highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay courtesy of Anna Lucas, Anna Miller, Sami Roemer and Libby Howell clocking a 3:33.38.
- Roemer recorded a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly at the TYR Invitational with a time of 4:37.18. Alessia Puleo joined Roemer with a top-three finish by placing third in the 200 breaststroke by swimming a 2:20.52.
- Vera Margula was impressive in the season opener (Oct. 1) with a win in the 1,000 freestyle (10:31.61) and a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle (5:05.54).
- Missouri State closed out the 2020-21 season in style by winning its fifth-straight MVC Championship with an impressive 929.5-point performance. The Bears' 381-point margin of victory was a program best.
- Missouri State has been in a league of its own when it comes to conference championships, as the Bears have won 17 of the last 19 MVC titles.
- Anna Miller has continued her success this season, having already garnered five individual wins. She collected MVC Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 13 after posting two top-three finishes against tough competition at the TYR Invitational in Miami, Fla. In Miami, Miller won the 50 freestyle with a blistering time of 23.32. The mark was just off the pool record and the 11th-fastest among all mid-major collegiate swimmers this year.
- Indiana State is 1-3 in dual meets this season with their lone win coming over Northern Iowa (187-113) on Oct. 22.
- The Sycamores return 24 letter winners from last season including MVC 200-butterfly champion Marni Gray and MVC honorable mention honorees Madie Rutan and Anna Maria Nasiou.
- The Sycamores were picked third in the 2021-22 MVC Preseason Poll, garnering 51 total points.
- Head Coach Josh Christensen is in his fourth year at the helm. In his two years, he has led ISU to back-to-back top-three finishes at the MVC Championships.
- Last season, the Bears defeated the Sycamores, 168-48, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Men's Bear Bites
- Missouri State defeated South Dakota in its last meet, 174-158, on Oct. 23.
- In the 400 freestyle relay, MSU was victorious as Arthur Cury, Bruno Guerra, Reese Hodgins and Robbie Hill registered a time of 3:06.45. The Bears also recorded a win in the 800 freestyle relay courtesy of Dylan Moffatt, Brunno Suzuki, Guerra and Robbie Hill clocking a 6:58.88.
- Suzuki recorded individual wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.11) and 500 freestyle (4:42.83).
- Moffatt won the 1,000 freestyle with a Mid-American Conference-best time of 9:35.36 and the 200 backstroke (1:53.52).
- At the TYR Invitational, the men accumulated 289 points to finish fourth behind Florida State (517.5), TCU (321) and Pittsburgh (312).
- Guerra posted the fastest time for MSU this season in the 50 freestyle by clocking in at 21.36.
- Cury registered a 1:40.16 in the 200 freestyle to finish third. The performance was the fastest among all MAC swimmers this season. Cury also holds an MAC-best time in the 200 IM (1:52.47).
- Pawel Krawczyk and Moffatt rank first and second among all MAC swimmers in the 500 freestyle with times of 4:31.40 and 4.32.61, respectively.
- Krawczyk's 1:50.51 200 butterfly is a conference-best time this season while Moffatt has the fastest 400 IM (4:04.33) in the MAC.
- Robbie Hill ranks second in the conference in the 50 backstroke (23.20),100 backstroke (50.27) and 200 backstroke (1:50.03).
- John David Spence has led MSU on the boards this season with bests of 258.90 (1-Meter) and 300.82 (3-Meter).
- The Bears defeated Southern Illinois in the season opener on Oct. 2, 205.5-145.5.
- Arthur Cury was named MAC swimmer of the week on Oct. 29. Cury recorded three wins in a two-day dual against South Dakota on Oct. 22-23. On day one, the Curitiba, Parana Brazil, native won the 200 freestyle with a blistering time of 1:42.36, as well as, the 200 IM, finishing the event in 1:55.19. Cury added a third victory to his weekend with a win in the 100 butterfly on the final day of the dual, clocking in at 51.10. He also helped lead the men's 400 meter relay squad to victory with a time of 3:06.45. Cury is a two-time all-MAC first-team selection, having garnered five gold medals, four silvers and one bronze at the MAC Championships during his career.
- Missouri S&T is 2-1 this season in dual meets with a pair of wins over Delta State.
- The Miners are led by Andy Huffman who finished third nationally in the Division II 200 breaststroke last season and Great Lakes Valley Conference 100 breaststroke champion Josh Umrysh.
- Last season, S&T finished fourth at the GLVC championships.
- Head Coach Doug Grooms is in his 23rd season at the helm. Under his guidance, the Miners have finished in the top 10 of NCAA Division II Championships 13 times.
- The Bears lead the all-time series with the Miners, 29-10.
- Dave Collins (Drury, 2005) is in his 11th season as Missouri State head coach.
- Collins garnered Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2021.
- Under Collins' watch, the Bears have won nine MVC conference titles and three MAC championships.
- In 2020-21, Collins guided the women to their fifth-straight Valley title and 17th overall. The MSU women ran away with the crown after winning seven individual and three relay events to finish with 929.50 points. The Bears' 381-point margin of victory was a program best. The MSU men finished second at the MAC Championships, claiming ten conference champion citations throughout the meet. Michael Claunch qualified for the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships for the third time on both the 1-and-3 meter boards.
- As head coach, Collins and the Bears' staff have produced 45 all-MVC first team selections and 22 all-MAC first teamers. Collins has also coached six conference swimmers of the year, a list that includes Anna Miller (2021), Dora Kiss (2016, 12), Lauren Pavel (2015, 17), Renata Sander (2011-14) and Uvis Kalnins (2014). Academically, with team GPAs of 3.0 or higher, both Bear squads have annually earned CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors.
- Since his arrival at Missouri State, the Bears have broken all men's and women's school records in the non-freestyle events.
- Collins has taken the Bears' recruiting efforts to new heights. He and his coaching staff are responsible for signing Missouri State's first top-100 recruit: 2012 Olympian Uvis Kalnins of Latvia. CollegeSwimming.com listed Kalnins as the No. 68 overall swimmer in the 2012 recruiting class.
- Before becoming head coach, Collins served as an assistant for four seasons at Missouri State under MSU Hall of Famer Jack Steck.
- Following the meet with Indiana State and Missouri S&T the Bears will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the Purdue Invitational from Nov.18-20. Preliminary events will start at 10 a.m. on all three days with finals starting at 6 p.m. on all three days.
