Men's Soccer to Host Creighton in First Round of NCAA Tournament

SPRINGFIELD – The 10-ranked Missouri State men's soccer team kicks off its NCAA Tournament Play on Thursday, Nov. 18 when the Bears host Creighton at 6 p.m.

  • Missouri State  heads into the NCAA Tournament sitting at No. 10 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 which was last released on Nov. 9. In College Soccer News' top-30, the Bears continued to move up one spot to No. 5 in the nation while making a two spot jump to No. 6 in Top Drawer Soccer's top-25. 

  • MSU is the only team in the nation in wins (17) and winning percentage (.944). 

  • During the last three seasons (2019, 2020, 2021-present) Missouri State leads the nation in overall winning percentage with a 47-4-1 record. The Bears percentage of .913 lands them at the top of Division I in the NCAA over Georgetown (.866), New Hampshire (.857), Campbell (.814) and Washington (.809). 

  • MSU is one of 13 teams to make the NCAA Tournament for three-straight years. 

  • Over the last three years the Bears have won 26 of their last 27 matches at home, including a perfect 12-0 record at Allison South Stadium this season. MSU currently has the best home winning streak with 14-straight victories at Allison South Stadium.  

  • Since the start of the 2019 season, Missouri State is 38-0-0 (1.000) when it scores two or more goals. 

  • MSU is No. 3 in the nation for goals against average. Through 18 games, opponents have scored just 10 goals against the Bears defense (.550). Additionally, senior goalkeeper Michael Creek is fourth in the NCAA for GAA (.593).    

  • Missouri State became the seventh team in Valley history to complete the conference season with no losses or ties for the second time in three years. 

  • Missouri State currently holds the national-best win streak with 15 games. The streak started after MSU's lone loss on the road to American Athletic Conference champions Tulsa on Sept. 3. During this run MSU has outscored opponents 32-6.

Missouri State NCAA Tournament History 

  • This is Missouri State's sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament. 

  • MSU will make its third-straight appearance in the tournament this year. The Bears made it to the second round in 2019 and appeared in their first-ever Sweet 16 match in Spring 2021. 

  • MSU last hosted a tournament game in 2019. They beat Denver at Allison South Stadium, 1-0, to advance to the second round. 

  • The Bears overall record in NCAA Tournament games is 2-5-0.

National Rankings 

  • Eighteenth in scoring offense (2.17 goals per game). 

  • First in the nation for least fouls per match (5.94). 

  • Third nationally in goals against average (.550). 

  • Eighth nationally in corner kicks per game (6.89).  

  • Tied for seventh nationally in goal difference (29 goals). 

  • First nationally in winning percentage (.944).

Take a Look Ahead 

With a win over Creighton in the first round meeting on Thursday night, the Bears would advance to play fourth-seeded Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane are Missouri State's only loss this season.
