Bears Host Saint Louis in Midweek Match

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team concludes its non-conference schedule, hosting Saint Louis on Wednesday, Sept. 18 before trekking to Omaha for a Saturday evening showdown on Sept. 21.

Missouri State Quick Kicks:
  • MSU erupted for five unanswered goals in the second period against Tulsa, seeing four different players find the back of the net. The last time the Bears scored five goals was at SIUE on Sept. 10, 2017, tallying an identical 5-1 mark.
  • Kennady Orlick dished out two goals in the final 11 minutes to cap an overpowering offensive performance for the Bears against the Golden Hurricane. 
  • The Bears recorded a perfect 2-0 weekend mark to extend its unbeaten streak to six. They lead the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 5-1-1 record.
  • Freshman Unnur Bergsdottir provided the crucial blow for the Bears against Murray State, scoring a goal in the 17th minute to earn MSU the 1-0 lead, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match. She holds the team-best in goals (3) and shots (9). Her two game-winners ties for second in the Valley.
  • Kaitlin Maxwell picked up her second shutout of the season against Murray State on Sunday.
  • Bergsdottir's weekend performance earned her a MVC Newcomer of the Week selection on Sept. 16. This is her first honor as a Bear.
  • MSU ranks third in goals amongst Valley school, collecting 13 through seven games. The Bears five game-winners top the MVC.
  • Ashley Coonfield, Jordan Eickelman, and Bergsdottir are among the MVC top-10 point leaders.
Scouting Saint Louis:
  • Saint Louis' senior goalkeeper Mary Niehaus earned Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after registering her third and fourth shutouts of the season in overtime against Iowa State and Purdue.  She leads the A-10 in shutouts, goals against average (0.42), and save percentage (.893).
  • Hannah Friedrich has been the Billiken's offensive weapon, holding a team-best three goals that includes game-winners against Indiana State and Iowa State.
  • Wednesday's match signals the end of the Billikens non-conference slate as they begin A-10 play on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Rhode Island.
Scouting Omaha:
  • Omaha has faced a challenging non-conference schedule, including matchups against Big-12 opponents Kansas State, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State.
  • The Mavericks lone win of the season came in stunning fashion, as Jaden Theim wrapped a corner kick into the back of the net during double overtime to seal Omaha's 2-1 win over UNI.
  • Four different Omaha players have scored for the Mavericks in 2019. Theim holds a team-best three points, tallying one goal and assist.  
Series History:

Saint Louis:
  • Saint Louis leads the series, holding a 10-2-5 mark against the Bears.
  • In their last meeting, the Billikens capitalized on multiple scoring chances at home, cruising to a 3-0 win. Maxwell shined in-goal, capturing 11 saves in the contest.
Omaha:
  • MSU has dominated in the squad's meetings, maintaining the 5-1-1 series edge.
  • In their last meeting, All-MVC freshman team product Anna Durnin scored in the opening five minutes, boosting the Bears to a 1-0 win at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
