Unblemished Bears Look to Stay Hot Against Tulsa

SPRINGFIELD – The undefeated Missouri State men's soccer team (3-0-0) looks to open its season with four straight wins for the first time since 2000 as the Bears play host to Tulsa (2-1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.

The match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. from Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Mo. Quick Kicks
  • Josh Dolling provided some late-game heroics with his goal in the 89th minute to extend Missouri State men's soccer (3-0-0) unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas on Tuesday (Sept. 10) at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
  • Dolling recorded his third consecutive game-winning goal against UCA, joining Anders Engebretsen of Saint Mary's (CA) as the only player in the nation with three game-winners.
  • MSU's defense has yet to allow a goal this season, becoming the first Bears' team in program history to earn three consecutive shutouts to begin a season.
  • The Bears' attack is led by Dolling who has a team-high three goals with a .500 shots on goal percentage for the season.
  • Goalkeeper Michael Creek earned his ninth career clean sheet in Tuesday's shutout, two games shy of tying Lance Parker (2004-07) for sixth on the school's all-time career leaders in shutouts.
  • MSU is tenth in the nation in corner kicks per game with a total of 23 on the season.  The Bears have capitalized on their set piece opportunities, scoring three of their five goals on the season following a free kick or corner kick.
  • Picked as the Missouri Valley Conference frontrunner in the league's preseason poll, Missouri State is the only team in the league with three wins.
 Know the Foe
  • Tulsa (2-1-0) dropped its first match of the season with a 2-0 loss against Kentucky on Sept. 6 in Lexington, Ky. 
  • The Golden Hurricane bring in a balanced attack with four separate players scoring the team's four goals on the season. 
  • Thomas Wells leads the American Athletic Conference in shots per game, averaging 4.33 shots in three matches.
  • Tom McIntosh is in his 25th season as head coach for Tulsa with an overall record of 252-173-50.  McIntosh is coaching in his 22nd match against Missouri State, holding a 10-9-2 career mark against the Bears.
Series History
Tulsa leads the all-time series 27-12-2 over MSU, with the Bears picking up the most recent win in the series on Sept. 1, 2017 with a 1-0 result in Springfield, Mo.  The two teams ended in a double-overtime scoreless draw in last season's match on Oct. 9 in Tulsa, Okla.  Missouri State owns a 7-10-1 record at home against the Golden Hurricane.
 
The Bears close out their homestand with a midweek matinee against Valparaiso on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 12:00 p.m in Springfield, Mo.
