SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team (0-0) travels to the west coast to play Santa Clara (1-0) on Monday (Sept. 2) at 9:30 p.m. (Central).  With Thursday's match against Kansas City being halted at halftime due to lightning, Monday's match becomes the season opener for the Bears.

Quick Kicks

• Missouri State led 2-0 in its home opener against Kansas City before play was halted during halftime because of inclement weather.  Due to play not reaching the NCAA minimum length, the match does not count as an official game.
• MSU was selected as the frontrunner for the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference soccer season as the preseason league poll was announced last week. The Bears received four of a possible six first-place votes in the poll.
• The Bears finished their 2018 campaign with a 9-2-6 overall record and reached the conference semifinal game falling to eventual champion Central Arkansas.
• The Bears return 11 players who saw action in 13 or more games last season.
• Reigning MVC goal leader, Josh Dolling, leads the Bears' attack after scoring 10 goals and three assists in his sophomore season.
• Seniors Kyle Hiebert and Ben Stroud joined Dolling on the Preseason All-MVC Team.  Hiebert and Stroud anchored the Bears' back line that led the league in fewest goals allowed last season.            
• Michael Creek played 16 games in goal for the Bears last season.  He tallied 46 saves, secured six shutouts and posted a 0.76 goals against avg. that was second best in the league

.Head Coach Jon Leamy

• As the winningest coach in program history, head coach, Jon Leamy, returns for his 28th season at the helm with an overall record of 262-184-65.
• Leamy has compiled seven regular-season MVC championships to go along with his seven MVC Tournament finals appearances and an MVC Tournament championship.
• Currently, Leamy ranks in the top-30 in all-time wins (262) among active Division I coaches.
• On September 30, 2017, Leamy recorded his 250th victory versus Valparaiso with a 1-0 shutout at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
• The five-time MVC Coach of the Year and three-time Midwest Region Coach of the Year has produced 143 all-conference and 76 MVC Scholar-Athlete selections.

 Know the Foe

• Santa Clara opened up its 2019 season with a 3-0 win against Holy Cross on Friday, Aug. 30.
• Senior Miles Robinson earned preseason All-West Coast Conference honors for the Broncos.
• Cameron Rast is in his 18th season as head coach for the Broncos.  As the winningest coach in program history, he owns a 167-123-47 overall record.

Series History
The Bears lead the series 1-0-0 after the two programs faced each other for the first time last season on Sept. 10 in Springfield.  Josh Dolling's hat trick powered MSU to a 3-2 double overtime thriller over SCU in their 2018 matchup.
