Soccer Bears’ Road Swing Continues at Central Arkansas and Little Rock

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State women's soccer concludes its season opening four-game road stretch, making stops at Central Arkansas (Aug. 30) and Little Rock (Sept. 1) this weekend.

Missouri State Quick Kicks
  • Senior forward Ashley Coonfield immediately made an impact for head coach Rob Brewer's squad at Western Illinois, slipping one past the Leathernecks with the help of Anna Durnin to give MSU the 1-0 edge in the opening minutes.
  • Coonfield, Durnin, and Lauren Fisher each tallied a shot on goal against the Leathernecks.
  • Western Illinois erased an early Bears' lead, scoring goals in both periods to down MSU 2-1 in the season opener.
  • Inclement weather in the Jonesboro, Ark. area canceled the Bears Sunday game at Arkansas State.

  • Central Arkansas opened its 2019 slate in Tempe, Ariz. at Arizona State University, falling 7-1 to the Sun Devils.
  • Senior Connie Awuku-Darkoh paced Central Arkansas' offense, scoring the lone goal in the ninth minute.
  • The Bears landed five selections to the preseason All-Southland conference team.
 
Scouting Arkansas-Little Rock
  • Julia Edholm's header in the 81st minute secured Little Rock's 1-0 home opener victory over Grambling State, marking its first win of the 2019 season.
  • Little Rock holds a 1-1-1 record, holding UT Martin to a 0-0 draw and falling to No. 20 Memphis 0-6.
  • The Trojans head to Tulsa, Okla. before turning their attention to the Bears on Sunday afternoon.

Central Arkansas:
  • Missouri State holds the 4-2 series advantage, including a three-game win streak spanning from 2015-17.
  • In their last meeting, Central Arkansas scored a pair of goals, downing MSU 2-0.
 
Little Rock:
