SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team hits the road this weekend (Feb. 23-24) to compete at the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Northern Iowa. The meet, held in the UNI Dome, will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the pentathlon, on Saturday, action on Sunday will start with the 1 p.m. triple jump.

Keeping Track of the Bears
- Heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship, Missouri State holds 13 top-eight marks in the league.
- Last season at the MVC Indoor Championship Missouri State took fifth place. The Bears produced significant performances from Jamilah James, who caped off her 13 team point weekend with MVC Freshman of the Year Honors.
- Senior Taryn Smiley holds top times in the 60-meter (2nd) and 200-meter (2nd). Smiley marked her season best 60m (7.50) at the Gorilla Classic earlier this month, while in January the sprinter set a career best at the John Gartland Invitational marking 24.58 in the 200m.
- The Bears hold three of the top five long jump marks heading to UNI. Sidne' Williamson holds the best mark in the conference (5.93m) set at the Arkansas Invitational. Jamilah James checks in third with a 5.87m jump, while Olivia Ott set a 5.78m leap which is fifth in the MVC.
- James also owns a career best triple jump mark of 12.66m, which sits as the mark in the league and ranks 46th nationally.
- The Bears time in the distance medley relay (12:01.57) set at the Gorilla Classic, stands second in the MVC.
- A new era in Bears track and field has begun, with interim head coach Jordan Fife taking the reins, along with assistant coaches Carmelita Jeter and Jake Brydson.
- Fife came to MSU in 2014 and has been the Bears head cross country coach for the past five seasons, while also serving as an assistant track and field coach.
- MSU was picked by league coaches to finish fifth at the indoor championship, the MVC announced Wednesday, Feb. 13.
