MSU Men’s Soccer Coaching Staff Receives Regional Honor

December 06, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri State men's soccer coaching staff, led by head coach Jon Leamy, has been named the 2019 United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year, announced by the organization on Friday (Dec. 6).

It becomes the fourth regional coaching honor for Leamy in his 28-year career after winning the award in 1997, 1999, and 2009.

Leamy, along with associate head coach/sports director Michael Seabolt and assistant coaches Phil Woods and Will Lukowski, guided Missouri State to an historic 2019 campaign that included the program's first NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament win.

After finishing the year with an 18-1-1 record, MSU set a club record for most wins in a season as well as registering the first perfect regular season (16-0).  The Bears made their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round for the first time.  Leamy has been at the helm for all four of the program's appearances in the national tournament (1997, 1999, 2009, 2019).

The Bears' coaching staff was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after an unblemished 10-0 record in league play to secure the program's eighth regular-season conference championship.  MSU became the first Valley team to finish with 10 league wins.

As the winningest coach in both Missouri State and MVC history, Leamy has compiled a 280-185-66 overall record with eight conference regular-season championships and one MVC Tournament title.
