Creek and Hiebert Collect Scholar All-American Honors

December 18, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri State's Michael Creek and Kyle Hiebert were named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-America Team, announced by the association on Wednesday (Dec. 18).

Hiebert was selected to the first team to receive his second-straight Scholar All-American after a third-team nod in 2018 while Creek earned a spot on the second team.  It becomes the latest honor for their performance in the classroom as both players were CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selections earlier this year.

Hiebert was one of two players on the 22-man list who previously made the Scholar All-America team as he joins Anders Engebretsen of Saint Mary's (Calif.) as the only repeat honorees from 2018.  The redshirt junior, who completed his undergraduate degree in May with a 4.0 GPA and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Accounting, adds another postseason academic accolade after being named the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer and earning his third CoSIDA Academic All-American distinction.  He was tabbed the MVC Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-MVC First Team while starting all 20 matches for an MSU team that featured one of the top defenses in the nation with a 0.632 goals against average.  He also chipped in four points for the Bears' attack with a goal and two assists.

Creek, who boasts a 3.97 GPA as an Entrepreneurship major, receives his first Scholar All-American laurel.  It becomes the latest academic honor for the junior from St. Louis after being picked to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team as well as an MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team selection.  Creek made all 20 starts in goal for MSU this season, allowing just 13 goals in his 1813:14 minutes played for a 0.646 goals against average which ranks ninth nationally.  He was selected as the MVC's Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the league in save percentage (0.787) and allowing the fewest goals among Valley keepers (13).
