MVC Release
ST. LOUIS – After scoring the game-winning goal to lift the Bears past Omaha last Friday, freshman forward
Anna Durnin was named MVC Women's Soccer Newcomer Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
From the jump Durnin was hot offensively, taking two shots within the opening five minutes. While the first fell wide, Durnin's second attempt from 20 yards out connected in goal giving the Bears the 1-0 advantage.
Later on in the opening period, it looked as if Durnin would score again but the shot landed just right to hit off the post.
The Wentzville, Mo. native would finish the night with four of the Bears' eight shot attempts in the shutout.
Her go-ahead goal was Durnin's first of her career, helping the Bears to a 2-1 record on the week.
This is Durnin's first MVC Player of the Week selection.
After a short hiatus, Missouri State (5-3) will return home to face SIU Edwardsville on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
