Soccer Bears’ Conference Slate Begins with Trip to Illinois State

SPRINGFIELD – After wrapping up non-conference action against Kansas State and Oral Roberts, the Missouri State women's soccer team (6-5) will set its sights on fellow Missouri Valley Conference opponent Illinois State to open league play at Normal, Ill. on Saturday, Sept. 22 with kick-off slated for 2 p.m.

Missouri State Quick Kicks
  • Missouri State shutout Kansas State, 1-0, on its home turf for the first time in Wildcats' program history on Sept. 14. Brittney Robinson knocked in a header off a corner kick to put the Bears up at the 62-minute mark, an advantage they would not relinquish the remainder of the match.
  • Goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell scooped up nine saves as she added yet another stellar performance to her sophomore campaign. K-State totaled 23 shots on the night, its second-highest count of the season.
  • Maxwell ranks second in the nation in total saves with 63.
  • The Bears' victory over Kansas State marked Missouri State's fourth shut-out of the season. Missouri State is nationally ranked 25th in shutouts.
  • Four different players – Jordan Eickelman, Kennady Orlick, Emma Skornia, and Olina Einarsdottir – have scored multiple goals this year.
  • The Bears are split in overtime contests this season, winning 3-2 at Tulsa Aug. 19, and falling to Oral Roberts, 3-2, Sept. 16.
  • Orlick found the net for the third time this season, in a 2-1 win over UMKC on Sept. 2, to become Missouri State's leading scorer. Her trio of game-winning goals is 13th in the nation.
  • Freshman forward Anna Durnin garnered Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week laurels on Sept. 4 after scoring the game-winning goal to edge out Omaha, 1-0. This is the Bears' second MVC Player of the Week nod this season, with Jordan Eickelman earning Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 20.
Scouting Illinois State
  • Illinois State currently ranks fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 4-4-2 record.
  • The Redbirds have garnered back-to-back MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors with goalkeeper Haley Smith and defender Megan McEachern earning the honor.
  • Forward Angel Krell is Illinois State's leading scorer notching three goals this season.
  • Illinois State will look to continue a two-game win streak consisting of decisions against Toledo and Omaha.
Series History
Illinois State:
  • The Redbirds hold the 16-8-9 series edge, although the Bears have won twice and forced a tie in the past three meetings.
  • In the last meeting, Missouri State defeated the Redbirds by a 2-0 margin with Brooke Prondzinski and Jordan Eickelman each connecting on key goals. The victory helped the Bears clinch the No. 2 seed in the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, which they would go on to win for their second conference championship in program history.
