Soccer Bears Start Road Swing In Omaha

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men's soccer team (1-0-1) hits the road to take on Nebraska Omaha (0-2-0), Friday at 7 p.m.

Know the Bears
  • Missouri State took down UMKC 3-1 to start the 2018 season on an offensive high note, recording more goals in a single game than any one game in 2017.
  • Opening up home action, the Bears held up a 1-1 double overtime tie with Cal State Fullerton. The Bears racked up 16 shots, led by Josh Dolling with six. 
  • The Bears sit No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches West Regional rankings released Tuesday (Aug. 28).
  • Dylan De Jong and Aadne Gikling Bruseth both recorded their first goals as Bears last week. De Jong's goal came in the 36th minute of the UMKC match, while Brusth's came off of a free kick in the 34th minute against Cal State Fullerton.
  • The defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion, Missouri State men's soccer team, has been tabbed as the team to beat in the upcoming MVC soccer season in a poll of league coaches.
  • The Bears are fresh off their seventh MVC regular season title, returning eight starters from last year's 9-5-3 (5-2-1 MVC) squad.
  • Conor Ingram and Ben Stroud captured preseason Missouri Valley Conference All-Conference honors.
  • Offensively the Bears return 93 percent of their goal scoring from a season ago led by Conor Ingram who scored seven goals last season.
  • MSU also returns the majority of its record breaking back line that produced 11 shutouts in 2017.
  • Missouri State will celebrate its 700th program game on Sept. 22 when they take on Valparaiso at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.

Omaha Mavericks
  • The Mavericks dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 11 Clemson Sunday Afternoon.
  • Bob Warming, enters his first season as Omaha's men's soccer coach. Warming is the third-winningest active NCAA Division I coach.
  • The Mavericks return 17 letter winners, including five starters from last season's squad.

Missouri State holds a 1-0-1 overall record against Nebraska Omaha. The two squads meet up back in 2015 with the match ending in a 2-2, double overtime draw in Omaha. The first meeting between these two squads came in 2013 where the Bears saw a 1-0 double overtime victory in Springfield.
