Women's Soccer Prepares for Action-Packed Week

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team caps off its four-game home stretch with matches against Louisiana Tech and Omaha, before facing UMKC over Labor Day weekend.  

The Bears continue their homestand Wednesday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 31 as they welcome Louisiana Tech and Omaha to Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium. Matches start at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

Following Friday's game the Bears will travel to Kansas City, Mo. to face UMKC on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m.

Missouri State Quick Kicks
  • Sophomore Jordan Eickelman earned Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 20 after scoring two goals, including the game winner, to help push the Bears past Tulsa, 3-2, in overtime.
  • Newcomer Kennady Orlick came in clutch, scoring another game winner against Southeast Missouri State, Tuesday, Aug. 21, to propel the Bears to a 1-0 advantage. Her previous deciding goal came in the home opener against Western Illinois, also ending in a 1-0 shutout.
  • Eickelman and Orlick each lead the Bears' with two goals apiece.
  • Missouri State's 1-0 victory against Southeast Missouri State Tuesday night signaled Head Coach Rob Brewer's 200th win with the Bears. He has been the head coach since the program's inception in 1996 and has collected two MVC Tournament Champion titles and NCAA Tournament appearances (2000, 2017), three academic all-Americans, and 20 MVC Championship appearances.
  • The last time the Bears started the season 3-0 was the 2007 season.
Scouting Louisiana Tech
  • Mylene Roy-Ouellet and Nomvula Kgoale both earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors. Roy-Ouellet received Offensive Player of the Week after notching nine points, including four goals (both game-winners) and one assist.  Meanwhile, Kgoale was selected Defensive Player of the Week after making the move to center back and helping keep both opponents scoreless. 
  • The Bulldogs enter the match 3-1 on the season, including winning the I-20 Showdown over the University of Louisiana-Monroe, 4-0.
  • Roy-Ouellet is the team's leading scorer with four goals on the young season. She is also is a five-way tie in assists with two.
Scouting Omaha
  • Brylie Meyer has the lone goal for Omaha in the early season, coming in a 1-1 double overtime with Arkansas State, and currently stands as the team's leading scorer.
  • Senior midfielder Emily Romero landed on the preseason Summit Players to Watch list; Omaha was voted to finish seventh in the preseason poll.
Scouting UMKC
  • The University of Missouri-Kansas City has won three out of its first four games to start the season, including a 4-0 shutout over Western Illinois this past weekend.
  • Forward Kelsey Mothershead gained the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week selection after a superb weekend tallying four goals and an assist. She also leads the team in a number of categories including goals, shots on goal, and points.
Series History
 
Louisiana Tech:
  • Missouri State holds the 1-0-0 series lead in the young rivalry against Louisiana Tech, defeating the Bulldogs 1-0 during the 2006 season.
Omaha:
  • The Bears have yet to face Omaha in a match, leaving the series record even at 0-0.
UMKC:
  • Missouri State holds a 6-2-1 series advantage over in-state rival UMKC. The last victory over the Roos came in 2015 with 2-1 decision. Senior Brooke Prondzinski led the team with eight shots.
