SPRINGFIELD – After making its second ever NCAA appearance last season, the Missouri State women's soccer team unveiled the 2018 schedule Thursday, highlighted by nine regular season home matches, head coach
Rob Brewer announced.
"We are very excited and cautiously optimistic about the 2018 schedule," Brewer explained. "We have one exhibition at the University of Missouri which will be sure to give us some insight into how we match up with high level soccer programs. We then have a 12 game non-conference slate with six home and six away matches."
The slate features 19 regular-season matches with a preseason contest against Missouri (Aug. 7), before the Bears kick off the regular season at home against Western Illinois (Aug. 16).
The Bears will hit the road with matches against Tulsa (Aug. 19) and Southeast Missouri State (Aug. 21).
MSU will close out the month of August with four home games against Little Rock (Aug. 24), Central Arkansas (Aug. 26), Louisiana Tech (Aug. 29) and the Nebraska Omaha (Aug. 31).
The month of September will see one home match for the Bears and six road trips. The Bears will travel to UMKC Sept. 2, before returning home to take on SIU Edwardsville Sept. 7.
The Bears will be on the road to close out the non-conference season, with trips to Saint Louis University (Sept. 9), Kansas State (Sept. 14) and Oral Roberts (Sept. 16).
"Competing on match day is most important, but learning how to travel and fight for road wins will be a goal for us," Brewer said. "Our MVC schedule has us on the road for four matches and at home for three. I expect that the conference will be hotly contested, as always, and we expect to be in the thick of things at seasons end."
Starting off Missouri Valley Conference play, MSU will travel to Illinois State (Sept. 22) and Northern Iowa (Sept. 29) for a rematch of last season's MVC Championship game. The Bears will return home to face off against Indiana State (Oct. 6), before hitting the road again to take on Valparaiso (Oct. 13).
The final two home matches of the season will be against Evansville (Oct. 17) and Loyola (Oct. 21). To close out the regular season, the Bears will meet Drake (Oct. 25) on the road.
The top six MVC teams will qualify for the 2018 MVC Women's Soccer Championship. The opening round will be held at campus sites with the semifinals and final played Nov. 2-4 in Chicago, Ill.
The Bears return five all-conference selections from the 2017 MVC Championship squad, including 60 percent of their goal scoring led by
Brooke Prondzinski, who scored six goals last season.
At the helm, Brewer has led Missouri State to a 197-179-50 overall record and 56-31-19 mark in MVC play.
