
Track & Field Bears Get Set for MVC Indoor Championship

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team will travel this weekend (Feb. 24-25) to the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Northern Iowa. The meet, held in Cedar Falls, Iowa, will kick off for the Bears at 9:30 a.m. with the pentathlon followed by the weight throw at 2 p.m. and the running events beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's action will start with the triple jump at 11 a.m. and the mile run beginning at 1:25 p.m.

Keeping Track of the Bears
- Heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Missouri State holds 13 top-eight marks in the league in 10 events.
- MSU was picked by league coaches to finish fifth at the indoor championship, the MVC announced Friday, Feb. 16.
- Last season at the MVC Championship Missouri State took sixth place. The Bears saw major performances from Jessica Allen and Georgia Richardson. Allen posted a new personal best in the 3,000m (10:01.95) while Richardson broke the school record in pole vault (3.49).
- A total of 22 student-athletes are projected to compete in 17 events. MSU will be competing in the pentathlon for the first time this season. Â
- The Bears have competed in six indoor meets in the 2017-18 season, racking up 57 top-five finishes and 12 individual first place victories.
- Asha Cave holds two top-five times in the MVC this season. Forth fastest in the 200-meter (24.46) and the fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.55).
- Brittany McPike marked the sixth best weight throw in the conference earlier this month with an 18.32-meter toss. With that attempt McPike broke the MSU program record in the event.
- Distance runner Jessica Allen spots the fourth fastest 3,000-meter (9:49.90) and 5,000-meter (16:59.64) in the conference this season. Allen is set to run both events this weekend.
- Director of track and field and cross country, Ronald Boyce, is in his 22nd season at the helm at Missouri State. During his tenure at MSU, the indoor program has seen six Valley championships, last coming in 2012.
