Soccer Bears Commence Postseason Play vs. Evansville

SPRINGFIELD – The forth-seeded Missouri State men's soccer team (8-2-5, 2-2-2 MVC) heads into post season action with a quarterfinal matchup with No. 5 Evansville, in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

Know the Bears
  • Missouri State makes their 23rd appearance in the MVC Tournament and holds a 15-20-5 (.438) overall record. MSU enters the MVC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face off against host school No. 5 Evansville in the 6 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday night.  The winner of the quarterfinal will face No. 1 Central Arkansas in the semifinal.  
  • The Bears offense has outscored its opponents early and often this season. Holding a 10-1 advantage in goals scored in the first half. The only goal the Bears have allowed in the first half came in the first minute of a 4-1 win over UMKC in Springfield on Sept. 15.
  • MSU has scored 19 goals this season, nine different athletes have scored goals for the Bears this season led by Josh Dolling with nine.
  • Dolling has scored the game-winning goal for the Bears five times this season. That sits him in the top 10 in the nation and first in the MVC in the category.
  • Dolling's single season   game-winning goal mark also is tied for second most in program history. Dolling has tallied eight game winners in his two years at MSU, which sits tied for sixth career wise all-time.
  • The Bears rank in the nation's elite in goals-against-average, which paces the conference, allowing only nine goals through 15 games, a .60 GAA. Kyle Hiebert and the Bears defense has held opponents to just a .075 shot percentage this season.
  • Michael Creek has started in goal for the Bears all but one game this season, racking up 41 saves and only has given up nine goals through 14 matches played. Creek paces the conference in GAA (.6).
  • The latest NCAA RPI report for the 2018 season has the Bears listed at No. 76.

  • Evansville earned their MVC tournament bid after a 4-3 win over Bradley in the final night of MVC regular season action.
  • Jesse Stafford-Lacy kicked in the game-winner penalty kick in the final minute of regulation.
  • Evansville is the host school for the 2018 MVC Tournament.
 
Series History
Evansville Purple Aces
Missouri State holds an 18-10-5 overall record against Evansville. The two squads meet last year in the MVC tournament, where the Bears came out on top 6-5 in penalty kicks, advancing to the championship match. MSU and Evansville meet earlier this season in a match that concluded in a 1-1 tie.
