Soccer Bears Prepare for Key MVC Road Matchup Against Drake

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team (8-1-4, 2-1-1 MVC) hit the road for the final time this season, to take on Drake, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The Bears sit tied for second in the MVC standings behind Loyola, who can lock up the regular season little with a win at Central Arkansas.

Know the Bears
  • The Bears have officially earned a spot in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament which will be held November 7, 9 and 11 at Evansville.
  • Missouri State bounced back in top-notch fashion, after dropping their first match of the season, with a 1-0 victory last Saturday against Gonzaga.
  • The Bears offense has outscored its opponents early and often this season. Holding a 10-1 advantage in goals scored in the first half. The only goal the Bears have allowed in the first half came in the first minute of a 4-1 win over UMKC in Springfield on Sept. 15.
  • MSU has scored 19 goals this season, nine different athletes have scored goals for the Bears this season led by Josh Dolling with nine.
  • Dolling has scored the game-winning goal for the Bears five times this season. That sits him seventh in the country and first in the MVC in the category.
  • The Bears rank seventh in the country in goals-against-average, which paces the conference, allowing only eight goals through 13 games, a .568 GAA.
  • Missouri State continues to receive votes in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll and the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings.
  • The Bears stand in sixth in the United Soccer Coaches West Region.
  • The latest NCAA RPI report for the 2018 season has the Bears listed at No. 61.
The Opponents
Drake Bulldogs
  • Drake had two tough results this past week. Drake lost a 2-0 leads against Northern Illinois, later in MVC action Drake lost to Bradley 1-0 in overtime when Bradley scored with 57 seconds left in the first overtime.
  • Cole Poppen for the Bulldogs leads the conference in assists (8). His eight assists rank eighth in the NCAA.  
  • Drake is battling for a spot and seeding at the 2018 MVC Championship, currently sitting in fifth.  
 
Series History
Drake Bulldogs
With the series tied 13-13-7, Missouri State and Drake have always had hard fought games. Last season the two squads met twice, with the Bulldogs finding a late goal to win 2-1 in Springfield. When the series moved to Des Moines the Bears and the Bulldogs settled for a 0-0 tie, clinching the Bears outright regular season title in 2017.
