Men's Golf

MSU Golfers Underway at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

The Missouri State men's golf team was back in action today for rounds one and two of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech. The par 72, 7,070 yd course at Squire Creek Country Club proved challenging to the Bears who fell from fourth to eighth over the first two rounds of play.

The golf Bears posted a strong start in round one, shooting 287, good for fourth place. Round two, however saw considerable leaderboard changes within the top 10. Holding a strong lead in first place, the University of South Florida is ahead 10 points over UTSA and Central Arkansas, both tied for second. Stephen F. Austin moved up into fourth with host Louisiana Tech leaping into fifth ahead of Southern Mississippi and Abilene Christian. Missouri State, Lamar, and Nicholls State round out the top 10 of the 14-team field.

Pacing the Bears in the individual standings was junior Jack Knoesel. Sitting in a four-way tie for 17th, Knoesel returned to the lineup card after not playing in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate and he came out firing. With a round one score of 70, Knoesel was in 6th heading into the afternoon where he shot 74 to stay at an even par for the day. John Fuchs also shot 70 in round one and finished the day tied with teammate Adam Fisher at 2-over par in 26th.

Round three starts tomorrow, September 19 at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start and Bears teeing off from holes five through nine.
