Soccer Bears Return Home to Face ORU

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team returns home to take on Oral Roberts Saturday at 7 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.

Know the Bears
  • The Bears opened up Missouri Valley Conference play last Wednesday against Central Arkansas. MSU earned the 2-1 double overtime sudden death victory in the 107th minute.
  • Junior Harry Lewis scored the winning goal over UCA off a missed penalty kick from junior Conor Ingram. Ingram recorded the first goal for the Bears in the contest.
  • The Bears 'bend, but don't break' defense has given up 65 shots through five games, but only relinquished four goals. MSU's goals allowed average is the lowest in the Missouri Valley (.74).
  • Senior goal keeper Liam Priestley has held up two shutouts this season and recorded 16 saves, including a career high eight against Air Force.
  • Lewis and Ingram lead the Bears in goal scoring. Both have scored twice this season. Ingram paces MSU with 11 shots with seven aimed at goal.
  • The Bears broke an eight game losing streak against Tulsa in the season's home opener. The streak dated back to 2004. The 2-0 victory marked the first shutout victory against Tulsa since 2002.
  • MSU was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll. The Bears picked up one first place vote and 34 points in the poll.
  • The Bears went 3-0 in preseason play after taking wins over Missouri Valley College (1-0), Missouri S&T (1-0) and Belmont (3-1).
  • Head coach Jon Leamy sits at 246 career wins. Leamy has headed the Bears for 26 seasons making him the program's longest tenured men's soccer coach.

  • The Golden Eagles have started off the 2017 season with a 2-2-1 record with wins over Incarnate Word and Bacone College.
  • ORU's Corey Cantor and Santiago Riveros have both recorded two goals this season. As a team Oral Roberts average 2.25 goals per game.
  • The Golden Eagles currently have a shot-on-goal percentage of .579. The defense has held their opponents to a .333 shot-on-goal percentage.
     
Series History
Central Arkansas
Missouri State holds a 15-5-6 all-time series lead over ORU. MSU and the Golden Eagles played each other two times last season. The last meeting between the two teams took place on Oct. 25, 2016, in Tulsa. The Bears took that game in double overtime, 2-1. MSU last faced ORU at Betty and Bobby Alison South Stadium on Sept. 17, 2016, ending in a 1-1 double overtime tie. Six of the last seven meetings between the two squads have gone to a second overtime with five ending in draws.

Final Details
Saturday's match against Oral Roberts is slated for 7 p.m. The home match will also serve as Baseball Night. Starting at 6:30 p.m. there will be free pizza for the first 200 fans and a baseball team meet and greet. Half time festivities will also feature the baseball team.
