SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team kicks off the 2017 home season Friday night against Tulsa at 7:30 p.m., before traveling to Birmingham to take on UAB Monday night at 6 p.m.

Know the Bears
• The Bears return 10 letter winners – three seniors, six juniors and five sophomores – from the 2016 and welcome a strong class of 13 incoming freshmen.
• Head coach
Jon Leamy heads into the 2017 season with 244 career wins. Leamy has headed the Bears for 26 seasons making him the program's longest tenured men's soccer coach.
• MSU was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll. The Bears picked up one first place vote and 34 points in the poll.
• The squad will have its first set of twins in program history. Rylan and
Reese Lavery join the team from Woodstock, Ga.
• Senior
Liam Priestley kept Air Force at bay with a career high eight saves in the match on Friday. Five of which came during the second half. MissouriState's defense gave up 20 shots with nine on goal during the game, but only surrendered one score.

The Opponents
Tulsa
• Went to double overtime against No. 25 Wisconsin in their season opener.
• Miguel Valasquez and Rollie Rocha scored the two goals for the golden hurricanes last Friday.
• Juan Sanchez took a team-best six shots, four of which were on goal.
UAB
• Three first half goals propelled UAB to a 3-0 victory over Memphis. UAB improves to 1-0-1 on the season.
• UAB opened the season with consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2003.
• UAB Returns 21 players, including six starters, from the 2016 team.
Series History
Tulsa
Tulsa holds a 27-11-1 all-time series lead over the Bears. The last meeting between the two teams took place on Sept. 27, 2016, where TU shut out the Bears, 1-0 in Tulsa. MSU and Tulsa last faced off at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in 2014 where the Golden Hurricanes took the contest 1-0.
UAB
UAB holds a 2-1 all-time series lead over the Bears with the first meeting occurring in 1997. The last meeting between the two teams took place on Sept. 23, 2014 where the Blazers took the match 3-1 in a Birmingham. MSU and UAB faced each other in NCAA competition on Nov. 11, 1999, UAB won 2-1.
