COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Missouri State women's golf team finished in 17th place here Wednesday after the final round of the NCAA Women's Golf Columbus Regional.

The Bears fired a final-round 329 on the 6,416-yard Scarlet Course on the Ohio State University campus to conclude the event. MSU's three-round total of 968 placed it in 17th place in the 18-team regional.

"I'm disappointed with how we played today," said head coach Kevin Kane, who earned MVC Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his career. "We had a realistic chance to move up a few places, but had our worst day of the tournament on the day with the best conditions."

Caroline Boone, who tied for 87th place, had her best round of the tournament with a final-round 79. The other three MSU competitors – Rachel Johnson, Verena Gimmy and Ashley Childers all shot in the 80s on Wednesday to fade deeper into the 95-player field.  Johnson's three-round total of 239 placed her 72nd, which was tops for the Bears.

Junior Stine Pettersen withdrew from the tournament due to an injury after playing just one round Monday.

"Playing short-handed doesn't give you much room for error, but I'm still very proud of this team for accomplishing what they have the last few weeks. Winning a conference championship and advancing to the NCAA regionals gives us a lot to feel good about and build on for the future."

Of the five players on MSU's regional roster, only Boone is a senior.

The top six teams and next three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced from each of the four regionals to the 2017 NCAA Championship, May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, Ill. Co-champions Florida (886) and South Carolina (886) paced the field in Columbus with Florida State (891) in third, host Ohio State (893) in fourth, Purdue (904) in fifth and Michigan (908) in sixth place.

The qualifying individuals were Cara Gorlei of Arkansas, Camila Serrano of Florida International and Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M. Florida's Kelly Grassel and South Carolina's Ana Pelaez tied for medalist honors at the regional with even-par scores of 216 over the event's 54 holes.
