Final Results
The Missouri State men's golf team ended its season with a fourth-place finish Tuesday (Apr. 25) at the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Lemont, Ill. The Bears entered the final round in fourth and stayed that way after posting 302 and finishing the tournament with a 908 total after shooting 301-305 on Monday.Â
Pre-tournament favorite Wichita State edged Illinois State for the team crown, 883-888, while Northern Iowa placed third with 899. Next came the Bears, followed by Southern Illinois (915), Evansville (916), Bradley (927), Drake (929) and Loyola (949). Medalist honors went to ISU's Trent Wallace, who carded a 218 total for 54 holes, two over par on the par 72, 7155-yard Dubsdread course at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club.
Sophomore
Jack Knoesel was MSU's top finisher, taking home sixth place after firing 70-76-75--221. Sophomore
Brad Carpenter not only finished 12th in the tournament with 76-75-75--226, but also received the Valley's prestigious Elite 18 Award, signifying the tournament's top player in the classroom; he sports a 3.934 GPA while majoring in Finance. He's the first MSU golfer, man or woman, to take home the honor.
Sophomore Kory Franks tied for 18th after carding 78-79-74--231, while freshman
Lukas McCalla posted 77-79-78--234 to tie for 29th. Sophomore
Adam Fisher tied for 41st with 84-75-82--241, but earned all-conference honors for his play during the regular season.
