ST. LOUIS – For the sixth time in nine weeks, a Missouri State Bear has been selected as Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, as
Jack Duffy became the latest Bear to earn the award from the league office Monday.
Duffy turned in the best four-game stretch of his Missouri State career last week, hitting .600 (9-for-15) with a team-high five RBIs. The freshman outfielder logged multi-hit performances in three of the Bears' four outings, including back-to-back career-best three-hit games against New Mexico. Duffy drove in a pair of runs in each of the Bears' first two contests in Albuquerque, then added two more hits while flashing the leather in Saturday's finale with two separate highlight-reel catches in right field to help close out MSU's sixth shutout of the season.
A Kansas City, Mo., native, Duffy raised his season batting average 87 points to .299 with his performance last week, and joined two-time honoree
Jake Burger and three-time MVC Player of the Week selection
Jeremy Eierman, as well as MVC Pitcher of the Week honorees
Austin Knight and
Jordan Knutson, on the Bears' list of Valley award winners this spring.Â
The Bears (22-13) return to action this evening when they renew their in-state rivalry with Saint Louis in a 6 p.m. game at the Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis. MSU also travels to Columbia Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Missouri at Taylor Stadium.
