ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the third time this season Missouri State senior goalkeeper
Liam Priestley was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Enterprise Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Priestley owns a 3.52 cumulative grade point average in Finance. The Essex, England native held up his 10
th shutout of the season against Drake, Saturday, to help the Bears clinch their first outright MVC regular-season title since 2014. Priestley ranks as one of the top goalies in the nation this year, sitting in third in shutouts (10), second in save percentage (0.871) and sixth in goals against average (0.51)
In the double overtime 0-0 draw with Drake the goalie marked five saves off of nine totals shot attempts by the Bulldogs. Priestley was able to keep Drake out of goal through 110 minutes of soccer. His timely saves provided the Bears with an opportunity to stay in the game and claim the MVC regular-season crown.
Next up for the Bears is the 2017 MVC Championship that will take place in Peoria, Ill., November 7-12 at historic Shea Stadium.
