Four Bears Earn MVC Scholar-Athlete Laurels

ST. LOUIS – Rounding out an impressive 2017 season, junior Brooke Prondzinski and seniors Mary Disidore and Brooke Zimmerman were selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete First Team while sophomore Ashley Coonfield represented Missouri State on the honorable mention team, announced Tuesday.
 
A member of the All-MVC First Team and MVC All-Tournament Team, Disidore was one of the most consistent members of the Bears' squad. She started all of the Bears' 21 matches, earning 10 points and one game-winning goal on the year. During regular-season play, Disidore tallied four goals and two assists over 1,864 minutes. She recorded a career-high two goals and two assists at SIUE on Sept. 10. Disidore maintains a 3.91 GPA in general studies.
 
Another member of the MVC All-Tournament Team, Prondzinski picked up an All-MVC honorable mention nod after leading the Bears with six goals and 13 points.  The junior produced game-winning goals in the Bears' final two regular-season matches, as well as in the MVC championship match against UNI, and picked up one assist against SEMO on Sept. 1. Boasting 12 career goals, her game-winner against Evansville marked the 10th goal of her career. A cell and molecular biology major, Prondzinski boasts a 3.91 overall GPA.
 
Transitioning into one of the Bears most solid defenders, Zimmerman scored three goals and produced two assists for eight points on the season. Thanks to her two game-winning goals this season, she is now third in the MSU record books with eight career game-winners. She successfully moved to the Missouri State back line where she was responsible for multiple takeaways that helped limit conference opponents' shots. Zimmerman was named the MVC Tournament MVP and was isntrumental to the success of the defense. Zimmerman holds a 3.48 GPA in administrative management.
 
Representing the Bears on the honorable mention team, Coonfield earned an All-MVC Honorable Mention nod for the 2017 season. She saw 13 starts in 21 matches, recording two goals and one assist. Both of her goals this season were game-winners, as they lifted the Bears past SIUE and UNI during the regular season. Coonfield led the team with 41 shots, 16 of which were on goal. The sophomore maintains a 3.88 GPA in cell and molecular biology.
