SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team dropped its first match in over a month Saturday evening at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium, as the Bears' seven-match winning streak, the second-longest in the nation, came to an end in a 2-1 loss to Drake. The Bears fell to 8-3-1 overall and 4-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play, maintaining the top spot in the league standings despite the setback.

Drake opened up the scoring in the 34th minute of the match. Ryan Merideth netted the goal off of an assist from Jake Taylor from five yards out.

The Bears tied the match in the 68th minute when junior Conor Ingram broke free to score. The goal came down the middle from six yards out off a double assist from Jordy Robins and Greg Stratton. Ingram paces the squad this season, marking goals in seven of the last nine games.

"We fought hard and got back into it," MSU head coach Jon Leamy said. "I thought we were sitting well, but they can counter attack and ended up poaching the second one. It just was not our night."

With the game approaching extra time, Drake's Antonio Sanchez broke open the game for the Bulldogs. Sanchez's goal came from 10 yards out in the middle of the field to capture Drake's first conference win.

The Bears recorded a season high 15 shots during the match with four of them aimed at goal. Ingram led the way for MSU with a season high six shots bringing his season total up to 24.

"The guys have been on a good run. We will get things back again," Leamy said. "We're sitting in a pretty good spot in this conference and our plans are to win this league."

The Bears will look to bounce back in conference play when they travel to Valparaiso on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.
