Missouri State's
Brad Carpenter holds the 36-hole lead heading into the final round of the Bears' men's golf season opener in Arbor City, Neb.
The sophomore from Washington, Mo., shot a two-over-par 74 in Saturday's (Sept. 3) opening round at the UNO Invitational, but followed with a four-under 68 for a 142 total and a one-shot lead over Kade Brown of Creighton heading into the final round on Sunday at the 7193-yard, par 72 Arbor Links layout.
As a team, the Bears are in fifth place after getting off to a slow start Saturday (Sept. 3), shooting 305 in the morning round. But they rebounded with an even-par team score of 288 in the afternoon for a 593 total that places them just 10 strokes off the pace.
North Dakota State leads the eight-team field with a 583 total, while Northern Iowa is second at 587. South Dakota is third at 591 and Creighton fourth with 592, followed by the Bears, SIUE (597), UNO (603) and IUPUI (625).
Sophomore
Adam Fisher is second for Missouri State and tied for 15th overall after posting 76-73--149, while freshman
Lucas McCalla is a shot back and tied for 20th with 76-74--150. Freshman
Sam Holmes carded 79-73--152 and is tied for 25th, and junior
John Fuchs is tied for 36th after shooting 83-74--157.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
