Marissa Kurtimah was invited to travel to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games for the 4x100-meter relay event with Canada. Khamica Bingham, Crystal Emmanuel, Phylicia George, Kimberly Hyacinthe and Farah Jacques also qualified for a trip to the Games.
In Thursday's semifinal, Kurtimah was tabbed an alternate. Each country takes its six-fastest runners in the 100-meter dash at the Olympic Trials, and after finishing fifth overall with a time of 11.42 seconds, Kurtimah earned a spot on Canada's Olympic team.
It came down to a photo finish between Canada and China on Thursday. Both clocking in at 42.70 seconds, it was revealed that Canada had crossed the line 0.001 seconds before China, recording the seventh-fastest time and earning a trip to Friday night's final.

In the finals, Canada crossed the finish line in the same position with a time of 43.15 seconds.
