EUGENE, Ore. - For the second time in three years, Missouri State track and field's 4x100-meter relay team will compete in Eugene, Ore. for a shot at the national title at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 8-11. The semifinal race will commence at approximately 6:32 p.m. (CDT) on Thursday with the final competition on Saturday.
Keeping Track of the Bears
- For the second time in three years, Missouri State's 4x100-meter relay team will take a trip to TrackTown USA for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It also marks the third time MSU has qualified for the NCAA national meet with its 4x100 relay team.
- Asha Cave, Shavonne Husbands, Marissa Kurtimah and Holly Pattie-Belleli clocked in a season-best time of 44.78 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay at the NCAA West Region Preliminary Round (May 28) in Lawrence, Kan. and will travel to the final championships. Teammate Kadisha Francois will also be joining them. The Bears finished 12th in Lawrence to advance to Eugene.
- Missouri State's relay squad comes into the meet with the 23rd-fastest time nationally. A semifinal race will be conducted with all 24 qualifying teams on Thursday at 6:32 p.m. (CDT). The top eight finishers will then compete for a national title on Saturday at approximately 5:32 p.m. (CDT).
- The Bears recorded five first- or second-place finishes in the event during the 2016 outdoor season, including a gold medal and all-conference performance at the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the third time in five years.
- In 2014, the 4x100-meter relay quartet of Chelsey Borders, Pernell Joseph, Althia Maximilien and Shavonne Husbands finished 20th at the NCAA Championships with a time of 46.00 seconds. The MSU squad earned honorable mention All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), marking the 14th time in school history the Bears have earned All-America honors on the women's side.
- With this year's quartet headed to Eugene, the total number of Bears competing as individuals or relay competitors at NCAA Outdoor nationals 25, including 21 under head coach Ron Boyce who has led the team since 1997.
- Members of the women's track programs at Bradley, UNI, Southern Illinois and Wichita State will join Missouri State in representing the Missouri Valley Conference in Eugene, competing in five individual events.
