Bears Struggle on First Day at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Missouri State women's golf team struggled mightily on the first day of the Lady Eagle Jam in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Monday (Mar. 7). The Bears shot 315-326--641, their worst 36 holes in two years, and sit last in the 11-team field at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

Barry leads the field heading into Tuesday's final round after posting 304-302--606 and holds a seven-shot lead over host Southern Miss and St. Leo.

Freshman Ashley Childers led the way for the Bears, carding a one-over-par 73 in the morning round before slipping to an 85. Her 158 total has her tied for 31st, one ahead of sophomore Stine Pettersen, who had 77-82--159. Senior Megan Furnish is tied for 43rd after posting 85-78--163, one ahead of sophomore Verena Gimmy, who had 80-84--164. Junior Caroline Boone shot 85-82--167 and is in 54th place.

Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8 a.m, shotgun start.
