Final Results
MAUMELLE, Ark. - Missouri State sophomore Verena Gimmy fired a 73 on the final day of the Little Rock/Arkansas State Invitational here Tuesday to claim top individual honors and help the Bears to a third-place team finish in the nine-team women's field.
Gimmy, a native of Neuss, Germany, finished the 54-hole event with a three-over score of 219 to win the event by two strokes. She trailed by two strokes after posting a 74 in the tournament's opening round Monday before rallying Monday afternoon to take the lead through 36 holes with a 72 in round two. On Tuesday, she distanced herself from the rest of the field with a solid round of 73 to claim medalist honors.
Gimmy led the tournament with eight birdies to set a blistering pace, while she tallied 35 pars and averaged 2.29 on the Maumelle Country Club's par 3 holes.
Central Arkansas' Emma Svensson was tournament runner-up with a 221, followed by Wichita State's Bryce Schroeder (222). Missouri State classmate Stine Pettersen also finished in the top 10, posting a 226 to finish in a four-way tie for seventh place in the field of 54 competitors.
Also competing for MSU were: junior Caroline Boone, who tied for 24th place with a 234, senior Megan Furnish (243), freshman Ashley Childers (250) and junior Kiersten Prater (273).
Central Arkansas claimed the overall team title with a 38-over par total of 902. MVC rival Wichita State (906) edged Missouri State (917) for the runner-up position after the two Valley squads posted identical second-round scores of 304 on Monday.
The Bears out-distanced co-hosts Arkansas State (923) and Little Rock (927), which placed fifth and sixth, respectively, while the only other Missouri Valley Conference entry, Northern Iowa, placed ninth (959).
Coach Kevin Kane's squad wraps up its regular season April 4-5 at the Gary Crossley Ford Kansas City Shootout before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Chicago, April 17-19.
