Final Results
The Missouri State men's golf team placed second of 11 teams Tuesday (Mar. 22) at its own Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield. The Bears shot 299 in windy conditions at Twin Oaks Country Club, but Central Arkansas posted a stellar 288 and overtook the home team for a seven-stroke victory.
MSU ended up with 292-290-299--881 for the tournament, while UCA had 291-295-288--874. Valparaiso (892), SIUE (898) and Western Illinois (899) rounded out the top five.
Senior Joey Johnson led the way for the Bears, taking runnerup honors and finishing just a shot behind medalist Luis Oboils of UCA, who carded 69-71-75--215, two-over-par for the tournament. Johnson came in with 71-73-72--216 and tied with Peter Webb of Valparaiso.
Senior Mitch Mather tied for seventh for MSU with 71-72-76--219, while freshmen Kory Franks and Adam Fisher tied for 12th with 223 totals. Senior Brik Brauburger tied for 44th at 233. Sophomores John Fuchs and Brian Rogers, playing as individuals, tied for 41st and 49th, respectively. Fuchs had the low round of the day Tuesday, a one-under 70, for a 232 total, while Rogers posted 236.
The Bears are idle now till the ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Apr. 11-12.
