MVC Release
ST. LOUIS – Five Missouri State women's soccer players picked up year-end honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, as announced at the annual Valley awards banquet held in Normal, Ill. on Thursday night.
Junior
Mary Disidore landed a spot on the All-MVC first team, while
Brooke Zimmerman was named to the second team.
Ashley Tallerine and
Evan Stamp were given an all-conference honorable mention and
Ashley Coonfield earned a spot on the All-Freshman squad.
Disidore's first-team nod is the second of her career, after earning an honorable mention her freshman season. In 2016, the midfielder led the team in shots (27) and scored her first-career goal in MSU's 1-1 draw at regular season champion, Illinois State. The Lenexa, Kan., native has started all but two matches in her three seasons with the Bears.
After being named to the All-Freshman team in 2014, and given an honorable mention last season, Zimmerman continues to make a name for herself at MSU. She finished the season with two goals, both game-winners, against Central Arkansas and SEMO and an assist in MSU's 1-1 draw with SIU Edwardsville. Zimmerman has six game-winning goals in her career, the third-most in MSU program history.
A threat in MSU's backfield, Tallerine tallied 1,568 minutes in her final season in the Maroon and White and has logged in over 4,300 minutes in her four-year career. She was awarded MVC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time, after her performance in MSU's draw with SIUE and shutout victory over SEMO.
Stamp earns her first year-end honor from the league after being promoted to starter in the net for the Bears in 2016. A three-time Valley keeper of the week, Stamp collected four clean sheets on the year and 86 total saves. She grabbed eight or more saves in a single match on seven different occasions, and recorded a career-high 13 saves, in MSU's 1-1 draw at Illinois State.
For the third-straight year, the Bears have representation on the MVC All-Freshman squad, as Coonfield landed a spot after playing in all 17 matches for MSU. The newcomer netted a team-high four goals and contributed an assist in the Bears' draw with Illinois State and victory over Indiana State.
The Bears finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-8-4 and were 1-3-2 in league play, missing the conference tournament by just a single point.
