Three Men’s Soccer Veterans Earn League Accolades

MVC Release

SPRINGFIELD – Three Missouri State men's soccer players recieved postseason honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, as announced at the annual men's soccer banquet held in the Prime Overtime Club at JQH Arena on Thursday night. Emmerich Hoegg landed a spot on the All-MVC first team, while teammates Jack Griffin and Robbie Oslica were second-team all-conference picks.

For the second time in his career, Hoegg was awarded first-team honors after continuing to make an impact for the Maroon and White. The senior leads the team in goals (4) and shots (36), giving him 16 goals and 100 shots in his career. His performance in MSU's 2-1 win over Bradley earned him MVC Offensive Player of the Week, as his game-winning goal against the Braves moved him into a tie for first in MSU program history in career game-winning goals with legends Matt Caution and Brad Jordan. Hoegg was the only Bear to be named to the 2015 Preseason All-MVC Team, but missed last season due to an injury.

For the third-consecutive season, Griffin was given all-conference laurels for continuing to be a threat in the midfield for the Bears. Playing in 17 matches for MSU this season, the senior netted his first goal of the season, and fifth of his career, in the Bears' final non-conference match of 2016 at Oral Roberts. The captain currently ranks seventh on the team in shots (11) and has taken more than 10 in all four seasons at MSU. Following the 2015 season, Griffin earned national recognition as a NSCAA All-West Region third-team member.

The only Bears defender to start every match this fall, Oslica is a repeat all-conference honoree after being named to the MVC All-Freshman Team in 2014 and the 2015 MVC All-Tournament Team. The junior ranks second on the team with three goals scored, finding the back of the net in a shutout victory over UMKC, in a 2-1 loss at SIU Edwardsville and again in a 1-1 draw with Drake. Oslica is the only defender to score for MSU this season and is the only Bear to score in back-to-back matches in 2016.

Missouri State will look to keep its MVC Men's Soccer Championship run going against No. 1-seeded Loyola in Friday's semifinal match-up at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. The contest between the Bears and the Ramblers is set to kick off at 6 p.m. and will be featured on The Valley On ESPN3. All MSU students presenting a valid I.D. will receive free admission to the match.
