Men’s Soccer Closes Non-Conference Play at ORU

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State men's soccer team (7-5-2) will travel to Oral Roberts (6-7-2) for the final leg of a home-and-home series with the Golden Eagles on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at 6 p.m.

Series History
Missouri State leads the all-time series over Oral Roberts, 14-5-6, but has only won twice on the road, as the Golden Eagles hold the 4-2-1 advantage at home. The last time the Bears came out on top in Tulsa was in 1996. MSU and ORU played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in the first part of the home-and-home series this season. ORU took the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute of the match, while senior Emmerich Hoegg netted his 14th career goal in the 46th minute of the match, to equalize with the visiting Golden Eagles.
 
Quick Kicks
  • The last three meetings between Missouri State and Oral Roberts have results in a draw. The last time either team came out on top was Oct. 7, 2014, when the Bears topped the Golden Eagles, 2-0, at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. Emmerich Hoegg tallied the game-winning goal, while Mikey Lightbourne extended MSU's lead.
  • For the second-consecutive season, the Bears will end its non-conference schedule on the road at Oral Roberts. Last season, the two teams battled to a 2-2 double-overtime draw in Tulsa, Okla., as Jake Laird and Conor Ingram aided in MSU's scoring.
  • Both Oral Roberts and Missouri State played matches against top-15 opponents Saturday night, and fell by the same score of 2-0. The Golden Eagles fell at No. 5 Denver, who remains undefeated with just a couple weeks left in the regular season, while the Bears dropped their second conference match of the season to No. 15 Loyola.
  • Despite allowing two goals in Saturday's loss to Loyola, MSU goalkeeper, Liam Priestley, ranks second in the Missouri Valley Conference in goals against average (0.76), allowing just 11 goals on the year. The keeper has ranked as one of the top-three in the league in this category for a majority of the 2016 season.
  • The Bears have won just a single match on the road this season, capturing a 1-0 shutout victory over the Evansville Purple Aces to open the month of October.
 
Scouting the Opponent
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles have an overall record of 6-7-2, and have lost just a single match at home, falling to Incarnate Word (5-2) at the beginning of the season. The Golden Eagles are 2-2-1 over their last five matches, topping Central Arkansas, 3-2, in double-overtime and shutting out IUPUI, 2-0. Oral Roberts has scored 23 goals and has registered 151 shots on the season, averaging 10 shots a match.
 
Salute to America's Heroes Night – Oct. 29
Missouri State will play its final home match of the regular season against Evansville on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m. The match between the Bears and the Purple Aces has been tabbed "Salute to America's Heroes" night, where the MSU men's soccer team will be playing in memory of Captain Aaron Eidem, who passed away last February in a tragic accident while helping a stranded motorist on Interstate 44. There will be free entry to the match for all first responders (medical, law enforcement and military) with a valid I.D.
