KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri State (0-1-2) men's soccer team ended its Tuesday (Sept. 8) night match in a double overtime scoreless draw against UMKC (1-1-1) at Durwood Stadium in Kansas City. The Bears have not allowed a goal since their season opener and ran their shutout streak to two games.

"The guys are getting better but we need to concentrate on finishing what we start," said head coach Jon Leamy. "We are getting better and the adjustments we have made in practice are starting come to light."

Six Bears took shot attempts in the game, accounting for 11 shots taken. Freshman Jake Buckle took four of his own, with one shot on the goal. The most aggressive offensively for the Bears was Scott Midgley, who put up three shots all on the goal. Midgley has made 10 shot attempts in his career as a sophomore and has played valuable minutes for the Bears.

MSU's Liam Priestly played the entire 110 minutes in the goal, and with help of his defense, was able to capture his second straight shutout on the season. The Bears were ranked third in the nation last season for shutouts with 11 in 18 games.

Three Bears played all 110 minutes, assisting in the defensive efforts to hold UMKC to eight shots and one shot on the goal. MSU has held their opponent to 10 shots or less a game. Priestley has had to make two saves at best per game with the tough defensive strategy of the Bears.

The Bears return home Friday (Sept. 11) to play Saint Mary's at 7 p.m. The game will be featured on Bears All-Access with live stats on GameTracker, both exclusively on MissouriStateBears.com. The night has been dubbed an "America Night." Fans are encouraged to wear their red, white, and blue as we remember and honor those who were affected by Sept. 11, 2001. Admission is free for first responders and military personnel, as well as all fans in honor of Family Weekend.
