Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's soccer team (7-3-1, 1-0-0) scored twice in the second half and held on for a 2-1 win in the conference opener against UNI (4-5-3, 0-1-0) at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Saturday night. Senior Alix Opfer tallied her team-best seventh goal of the year and sophomore Brooke Zimmerman racked up her third career game-winner, all at Allison South Stadium. The win improves the Bears' record against the Panthers in MVC openers to 7-0-0.

"Overall, I was pleased with our performance and I thought we were in control much of the match," said head coach Rob Brewer. "I felt a little more at ease at halftime because I felt that we had the potential to control the flow of the game."

Missouri State controlled a majority of play in the first half, out-shooting the Panthers 7-1 in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Bears broke through in the 47th minute. MSU had a bit of combination play up the right side with Brooke Prondzinski and Brooke Zimmerman with a give-and-go towards the end line. Prondzinski's cross found the foot of Opfer for the initial goal of the match.

Opfer sent a pass forward to Prondzinski in the 68th minute. Prondzinski again sent a beautiful cross to the foot of Zimmerman, who drilled a shot into the back of the net to double the lead to 2-0.

UNI countered right away with a goal in the 69th minute to pull within a goal at 2-1.

Missouri State defense held firm the rest of the way for the win. The Bears out-shot the Panthers 13-4 in the match, led by Prondzinski's five shots.

MSU hits the road for away matches at Loyola (Oct. 4) and at Indiana State (Oct. 10) before returning home against Illinois State on October 17 at 6:00 p.m.
